If I would like to pre-order the new Stang does this mean that I can not negotiate the price? Does this mean, whatever the price is, is? This will be my first new car and I was wanting everything I WANT IT, not the way the dealer wants it...so my question is, if I pre-order am I stuck at the hi-jacked price?

I would bet it all depends on what you sign. I mean theoreticlly you could negotiate out the hold back money and any market adjustment. But you would have to be pretty good at negotiating.

You can negotiate the price when ordering just like you can negotiate the price on a car already on the lot.

When you both agree on the price, the dealer will write it up and you both sign it.

When the 2005 Mustangs get closer to production, you can even call Ford (1-800-392-3673) and ask for your car's status. The dealer also gets status reports on ordered vehicles and you can check there too.

However, just getting your order in soon will not guarantee you the very first black GT. There are a lot of factors which go into production scheduling.

You can pre-order & leave a deposit. Even with the deposit there, you can continue to negotiate the price up until you sign for it. Heck, you can take back your deposit if you're not happy with the final price. I've done the "threatening to take my deposit back & give my business to the dealer down the road" tactic a bunch of times....

With the hype of the 2005 mustang, the chances of ordering a new GT, receiving it within 12 weeks, and getting a good price are slim to none. The car will be in too high of demand for any dealer to negociate. Good luck.

BTW, look to spend 2-4K over sticker for at least 3 months depending on the area you live.

I've preorder 2 mustangs in the past and never paid more than sticker... I never even paid sticker... I always negotiated. Never a problem. Maybe I was lucky.

perhaps, but with the '05 the price can go "up" or "down" after ordering a mustang. Basically, you can put $500 down on a 25K mustang, and when it comes in it could be 29K. If you don't pay 29K they could say tough ******* luck. Just my experience,

I agree, which is why I always get a VIN # assigned to my orders with anumber in writing, with a set percentage the price can go up, not down, based on market conditions. Essentially we enter into a contract and they must sell me the car in that range. Now, it may be that my family (mother, brother, step father and myself) have bought around 30 fords in 10 years from the same dealer. They may be treating us better. I'm not saying the deals I made are common practice.

I was just told by my dealer today there is no sense in putting a deposit down and ordering one until the prices and options are released. Out here they are putting peoples names on a list and then calling them when the prices and options lists are released and then you can order one when you can see what options you want. Its kinda silly to order something when you have no idea of whats available or what the price will be.

Vin #, contracts, etc are all worthless until the vehicle is taken in delivery...for customers and dealers. You can order a mustang and sign for a great deal before it hits the lot, but if another person comes in and offers 10K over sticker you'll be **** out of luck unless you've taken delivery of it.

Maybe you do have a great connection, but I know many salespeople that will be very unwilling to let a '05 mustang go for invoice.

As you seem to know more about the inner working of the dealerships, I would have to go along with that; makes sense. The only Ford dealer I know is the one we have always dealt with. Maybe they negotiate with us because they know when we walk in the door we are their to buy.
