Predator or hypertech programmers?

Well for a while now i have been wanting to fix up my car... i have some money now and i don't know what i should do . Should i do the programmers? if so what one? or should i getsomething else for that amount of money! i have close to 500 to spend so lets hear it. Oh and i have a auto 02 gt

Honestly, no matter what you decide to spend your money on, you will always want more things for the car..So if you bought something else, eventually, you'd be back wonder which tuner or chip to get.

When I decided what tuner to get, I chose the Diablosport Predator over the hypertech. I felt the diablosport allowed more tunable options and the fact I could have them custom make me a flash using it. The biggest thing I liked was the fact that I could hook it up to my computer.

i got the predator like he said you can hook it up to your computer which allows you to watch data and get custom tunes from a diablo dealer. You also can tweak there special tune unlike hypertech. I think all and all the predator is the way to go

Well with 500$ you wont be able to get gears, install them and get a programmer.
I say the best bang for the buck in an automatic would be gears. So get the Predator first. Then the gears when you can get the extra 4-500$. That s what i did. At the time, the predator wasnt available, so i got the hypertech. It was a good deal anyway off Ebay. Since you have an auto, you cannot avoid the programmer or a custom chip witch would be a waste at this time since you dont have any mods.

sct software. more money but complete control. this is what I am buying next. i think all the hand held programers are a band aid fix. then again I plan on heads and cams.

I agree with Hognutz. For a few bucks more, you could get the SCT software and complete control of your car. Or my choice, a good dynotune and a chip/reflash.

The only good thing about those handheld tuners is if you want to boost your ego so you can stand atop a windy mountain, hair blowing in the breeze and the Predator raised above your head while you yell, "I am master Mustang tuner. I shall rule the world!"

Not true. Try taking you car in for some warr. service and have them find out you put a chip in....VOID. The Diablo also allows you to scan and clear any trouble codes out of your computer. I would say get the Diablo....I have one on order!

I wonder what they would think about the cams, headers, catless X-pipe, gears, etc.

I guess I voided my warranty last week at 5,300 miles.

At least it runs like a cat with turpintine on its ass.

well i do have a 75,000 warranty and i wanna try keeping it. cause i was thinking on gonig for the hypertech about a week back, now the predator is 50 bucks more big deal, but does it acctually offer that much more for the money? and will i notice a huge difference?

For someone with your setup you should get a dyno tuned chip or program for the Diablo. I had a chip in my '91 and it was such a PITA to send it out and have it reburned when I did mods. With the Diablo they can dyno your car, tune it, then load the program into the Diablo. The Diablo also allows you to play around a bit with the settings, a chip you can't do anything with yourself.

if they are going to void you waranty for a chip they will void to for having the diablo tune. chip=tune, diablo=tune niether of them are stock.

I will just reiterate. tuners=waste. get a dynotune if you want power. tuners come with a tune for a stock car. I don't think alot people relize this. It is not a tune for a modified car. I just think if you are going to spend money spend it on something that gives you power to change things are grow with the changes. now diablo advertises flexibilty it is just too new for anyone to give great feedback about. ordering a diablo and having it be a great peice are two diffent things. So I would wait for the diablo to get some more reviews. I would not buy the hypertech though. I think hypertech is crap. I had a "thermomaster" hypertech chip in my 88 iroc. waste of money.

on thing about the sct is you will learn. you won't learn crap with the hypertech.

If you want a HUGE gain off a mod get a charger or a turbo. The Diablo will give you about 5-8HP with a stock setup. When you start to add mods you will see how helpfull it is. I'm getting my Prochamber put on in a few weeks and the Diablo will let me turn off the rear O2's. Then if I want to get gears I can use the Diablo to set that up as well...instead of sending a chip out to get reburned.

the sct allows you to edit everthing. the only argument you can make against the sct software is the price. It is hands down the best tunning solution out there. I don't think the diablo holds a candle to it. that is just my opion of course.

2 diablo
3 there isnt' a third as the other are a waste IMO.

I agree!! The price of the SCT is the only thing that drove me away.

yeah I will be out on the corner given bj's to afford it but I just want something that will allow my to change my config. and no have to get retuned.

how much do they charge for a custom tune for the diablo? I was reading up on it but then it too like 8 years to finally get released do they have a pricing structure for that yet.

I talked to a shop and they could do the dyno tune for $150. I don't need it now for the mods I have, but if I get long tubes and cams I will. I've been on a GP for this for 4 months now. FINALLY it came out and I should have it next week.

ok, well cant i reprogram the chip back to stock with the programmer for the warrany? and what is a sct and whats the cost, i am used to working on old mustangs so i am not to up on new cars

The programmer will alow you to go back to stock without the dealer knowing anything. With a chip you have to plug it into the CPU and the dealer can see that, if they wanted to. The programmer allows you to unistall the tune from a port on the drivers side, dealer won't know. The SCT is a program that you load onto you laptop and can adjust EVERYTHING in detail, but you need a laptop to install the program in the CPU. With the SCT you are the tuner have to adjust everything yourself. I didn't have the time or money to do the SCT, I'll leave that up to the pros.

Yes i did. Not much but i can feel it espacially at low range RPM. But again i didnt get it for the power tune but to be able to ajust my shift point and speedo for the 4.10.
And as for the warranty, it really depends on the dealer you re going to. My car is at the ford dealer right now and i left the programmer to the technician so he can put my set up back in the car when he ll be done with my gear swap
If you re not planning on a lots of mods, stick with the predator. IMO that would be your best shot.
