The instruction manual is very unclear.
I'm getting my 3:73s installed tomorrow and will need to let the computer know they are in. The manual tells you how to change a perameter prior to installing a tune. It does not tell you how to change a perameter on a tune that is currently on the PCM. Has anyone done this before, and would you mind clueing me in?

Let me get this straight:

- you have a custom tune right now in your PCM.
- you want to change the axle ratio setting on that custom tune.

if my understanding is correct all you do is go in to performance tune. select what you want done and re-install the tune.

Every time you plug the predator in, it reads what tune you have in there so all you're doing is reinstalling the same tune you made before, only with the correct axle ratio change.

hope that helps.

yeah its something like that all your doing is modifying the tune so when you plug it in you go to the performance tune and adjust the axle ratio and it will tell you that the modification will be entered the next time you install the tune. After that it will say install tune and you press ok

Is this a new Predator? If so, then the first time you plug it in, you need to backup the original tune. It should do that automatically the first time.

Then you'll be able to go into the Performance Tune and modify it. Then, you would install the Performance Tune with the changes you made to it. Later on, you just plug it in and make changes to the Performance Tune, then write it into your EEC. It will just overwrite the last tune you wrote.

For some reason when I try to modify a parameter in the current tune installed it doesn't reprogram correctly and ends up crashing. I have to re-install the factory tune, modify the performance tune parameters and then install the performance tune. Letting you know in case you have issues with changing the gear ratio parameter.

This is correct. I did not install the "performance" tune that came with the Predator. I had a custom tune e-mailed to me and it is currently on the PCM. What I was wondering is what is the process for changing the gear setting on that.

I've had this happen before and was just trying to get the proper procedure this time so I could avoid having it happen again. :)

How did the emailed custom tune get on the PCM? Thru the Predator? Is it still on the Predator? If so, you should be able to modify the custom tune on the Predator then flash it.

The file is e-mailed, then downloaded to the predator via the custom tune import freature and a PC with serial cable and software. Then it's flashed to the PCM.

A copy of the custom tune still resides in your Predator. I bet you don't see "Performance Tune" anymore. The menu should show "Custom Tune". Go modify the parameters on the Custom Tune, that then flash it into your car again. Repeat as necessary.

To be more specific:

Select Custom Tune.
Select Modify Tune.
Select Axle Ratio.
Click left or right until you get to the closest match. Mine shows 4.09 for my 4.10 gears.
Click the center button to OK it.
Confirm it.
Acknowledge the message that says it will be effective on your next flash.
Hit ESC to back out until you get the prompt to flash your car.
Select Yes.
The rest should be familiar ground if you've flashed it before.
