I have a 97 gt and was wondering why the diablo sport preditor can only be used with 98 and above, also is there a tuner that I can get for my car?

I believe that it is due to the fact that your car must use ODB2 to allow the handheld programmers to work. ODBII started for Ford in 98. I think this is right but if not I am sure someone will correct me

OBD2 was federally required on all 1996 model year cars and up. no idea why it doesnt work.

If the predator does not work on your 97, I don't know why. If it doesn't, SCT does. OBDII as stated was required on 96+ cars, however Ford started using it on some models in 94. The 94 - 95 TBird/Cougar with a 4.6 is an EEC V and is OBDII.

They probably quit reverse engineering older years after they did the 98 year models. I'm guessing there's less stuff controlled by the EEC in earlier years so there's less to gain.

Just a guess...
