preloading the pinion bearings

the write up I have says to crush the sleeve so that you have around 10-14
inch lbs preload but most inch pound units only start at 20-30 inch lbs.I used a digital foot lbs torque wrench, set to NM and tried to dial in around 1.2 newton meters but im not real thrilled with that.what did any of you other guys do?

I used an old "Beam" style inch pound torque wrench. I just spun the pinion by the nut with the beam torque wrench and looked at the reading.

Exactly. With new bearings you want 19-29 inch pounds. Like 8-16 for used bearings or whatever they were at before taking them out.

anyone else know where I cn get an inch LB torque wrench with graduations less than 20 inch LBS?

I got mine at Sears. Craftsman brand goes from 0-100 inch pounds. It was around $60 on sale.
