Prices of New Edge

Some i'm currently looking for a 99-04 mustang gt but, i'm seeing prices as high up as 10k. I'm looking to spend up to 6k, are my expectations too low? I Just don't understand some of these cars being so high sound off guys.

Stangless for the last two years so anxious to get another one.

i looked for almost 6 months. everything i found with decent miles was between 8500 and 10plus. actualy drove 2.5 hours to look at a bullitt that had a serious knock in the motor. to say the least i was agravated. after two more trips that turned out to be a bust, i found my girl. 2000 gt good miles, i got it for 6000. be careful dealing with dealers. that bullitt sounded great until i drove it about 10 miles and it warmed up. and of course they said they had no clue.

I stole mine in a heck of a trade deal..... I think you can find one for 6k just take your time.

I really wanna stay under 6k but it's seems to be difficult right now. These cars are still in high demand when I thought they would be much cheaper.

You may find a 1999-2001 in this price range with 100-150K miles if you look hard. Depends how clean you want the car and if your able to do mechanical work on your own. If you search Autotrader 2-3 hours from your zip code you can see what's out there in your price range. Hate to say it, but your better off finding a private owner hard up for cash or wanting to pay off a loan. I stay away from dealers. It seems the 99-04 took a drop a few years ago, but are now holding steady. Take your time and happy hunting!

So a owner may be my best bet I guess. A lot of the dealers are upping the ante but, I did see 2 01 cobras for 7k.

Dealers really love to skyrocket the price of a car. They have it detailed front to back, but don't add in the miles and condition of the drivetrain/chassis. This is especially true for Mustangs. They think these things are made of gold

Yep Private seller is best IMO

You can get more history on the car from private owner etc.

And dont trust car fax. My buddy bought a Terminator with a clean title. and clean carfax
It turns out The dealership owner sold it on consignment for a body shop owner that he was friends with. My buddy Found out a moth after buying it that it had been wrecked pretty bad. He found some damage and evidence of shoddy repairs that were hiddenwhen he was putting lowering springs in it. Its now turned into a law suit that will drag out for some time.

Am I the only one that thinks the O.p. should find one for 3-4 grand and put the rest the cash into rebuilding the engine and repairs?

if he has the time and a place and patience then ya. If not its better just buy what he wants.

It's much more difficult than that. A beat up car with 150K miles likely has faded paint, needs brakes, engine rebuild, trans rebuild, clutch or torque converter depending on trans type, rear end rebuild, etc... all said and done you're looking at a minimum of $5K out of pocket to do the mechanical work, and you're still left with a car that likely has bad paint and bad interior. Paint and interior would easily be 4K+ unless the guy can paint it himself, but not many can so Im assuming no. Now you're in 12-14K for a car that's worth 6K, and for that kind of money one would have been better off finding a clean low mileage Bullitt, Cobra, or Mach 1

All of the one for 3-4 grand have lots of miles, and many issues and need repairs. I just want something I don't have to work on immediately and no I won't be painting it. I may look for a low mileage cobra if the price is right.

You'll get a beater for under $6k. Nobody is going to sell a 7-8 year old Mustang for less than $6k. As mentioned, all you're going to find are maybe '99-'01s that are beat with 100-150k miles.

You're on the low range of price for these cars. Between 6-10 grand is the sweet spot. On the higher end you could find some real nice well kept cars. It is real hard to sell one for over 10 grand, and anything under 6ish will be high miles. I would aim for the 8 grand range. You could find a car that is having trouble selling and find a great deal.

Shame, I am thinking of moving back to Thailand but I won't be selling my stang as of yet. But her paint is messed up, but only 59k miles haha
