looking to get a new shifter read the reviews and both sounded like good products and im guessing it comes down to personal preference. So guys what do you think. keep in mind, i dont want a real short shifter i figure ill have to buy a longer handle, but which one is better? also i can use the factory boot, mach 1 knob, and everything with the new shifter right?

I love my 5.0 shifter and from what I heard nothing beats it. You'll never miss 3rd gear with this shifter. I got mine at http://www.stangshifters.com for $180 free shipping!

I prefer a pro 5.0 myself. I have run two pro 5.0s in my cobra and I have a tri-ax with a pro 5.0 handle in my 88. I personally just like the solid feel of the pro 5.0 and short handle. Since you want a longer handle you might want to look into the tri-ax then.
Yes your boot and shift knob will work with an aftermarket shifter.

you're right, it really does come down to personal preference on these shifters. they are both great. personally, i have the pro 5.0 and love it.

Just wanted to add that on the Tri-ax ( I don't know about the 5.0), there are two mounting options for the handle. One high and one low.

I just recently got my tri-ax. It is very comfortable, precise, and still has the stock comfort level. I love it and the spring loaded 3rd gear is amazing.

We've got both - and we wish we would have bought another Pro-50 rather than the Tri-Ax. It's not bad, much better than stock, but not as precise and race like as the Pro-50.
I've also used the Tri -Ax handle on the Pro-50...if you need the extra length and angle that this provides, spend an extra $30 and get the Tri-Ax handle, but the difference is minimal, IMO. I've swapped handles back and forth several times...it's a simple 5-10 min swapout.

Since you don't want a short handle, go with the Steeda Tri-ax.
