I just finished the install...

1. The directions say to "move stop until it touches shifter handle and then back off 1 full turn and set lock nut". Does the stop needs to be moved towards or away from the shifter handle? The directions make it sound away, but that doesn't make sense..isn't the purpose of the the stop screw to provide a "stop" for the shifter handle?

2. The OEm shifter handle cannot fully tighten. Can anyone recommend some hadles that will fit and fully tighten?

3. When shifting into 1st, 3rd or 5th gear, my knuckes hit the center console? Aany suggestions on how to avoid this? new shifter handle?

Thanks!

That is why you adjust the stops so you putit where you like it...put it in first where you like it, then tighten the stop so it will stay right there then do the same in second.....if you still hit your knuckles try again I guess as for the knob maybe some teflon (plummbers tape) would help?

the stops are there to provide you a means from bending/breaking the shift forks - not for any comfort issues. you put it in gear and move the adjuster AWAY from the shifter (so there is a small small gap between the shifter and the stop). this way you will fully engage the gear. if you are touching the stops, you take a chance on not engaging the gear(s) all the way.
the point is that when it is all the way in gear, if you push on the shifter a little more, the stops come in and keep you from over extending the shifter. be sure to put in 1,3,5 and 2,4,R and make sure none of the gears have the stop touching the shifter handle - there should be a very small clearance.

for your hand hitting the dash, that does not sound right. why are you using the stock handle with an aftermarket shifter? the ergonomics are most likely different, no?
or do you mean the OEM shift knob? if so, using tape etc to shim it can work, but you dont want your knob to come off. good luck.

Whoh buddy! The stops aren't to adjust the handle where you like it....they're to protect the tranny shift forks. Put it in gear fully, then adjust the shift stop so it is touching the handle....then back it off a half turn. (be sure to lock tight it)

The reason for them is that if you didn't have them, under hard shifts you can actually force the handle too far and bend the forks in the transmission.

After I went to adjust the stops, I realized how stupid my question was. If I moved the stops toward the shifter the shifter would not engage properly. duhh. Also, as for my knucles hitting the console.....well it helps to have the handle mounted straight and not backwards. Sorry to waste your time.

thanks
