Could a Pro-M Optimizer be better than a tune?
http://www.pro-flow.com/Product pages/remote_optimizer.htm

Soon enough I'm going to get a tune be it a chip or flash since I think I'm running rich. BUT, I'm not sure if I'm done modding my car yet so I'll probably have to end up getting another tune later on. Would an Optimizer be a better purchase instead of getting another $200 some tune down the road?

I don't want to get the Steeda adaptive flash since I don't want to run higher octane gas yet.

Oh, I'm pretty much just looking for experiences with it.
99BRINGIT and stylin99 both seem to like it. I'd much rather spend $170 and be able to keep tuning the A/F whenever I got dyno'd than have to pay each time I get traditional dyno tune.

Here is my thoughts..

the Pro-M Optimizer still needs to be used with a dyno to see what the A/F ratios and adjust as you see necessary. the chip has to be used on a dyno to adust a/f ratios but I don't see the benifits there because I paid $250 and my tuner lets me come back to him as much as I would like to make changes to my chip.. gears, shift points, adding a race program, converter schedule, etc.

where as if I got just the Pro-M i wouldnt have the ability to adjust everything else I just mentioned.

also, my tuner once just hooked up a handheld device to my 02's and we drove around and made some passes and he was checking my a/f ratios that way.. so essentially I wouldnt even need to get on a dyno to adjust my chip  this was not the norm but it was a Sunday and the dyno was closed..

just a thought

In order to get an accurate reading / setting to the A/F ratio you would need to get it on the dyno. I have not had my car dynoed yet and I have the Pro M Optimizer. I needed it to lean out my A/F ratio from the UPR cai & other intake modifications I made to the Stang. After the intake mods I couldn't tell a big difference in throttle response or upper rpm pull. But once I leaned out the A/F I could feel a difference... :nice: Now my tailpipes aren't black on the inside anymore. I have it set to 1 or .1 ( just above the 0 setting) and my car runs like a champ. However I still have intermittent idling issues. Sometimes the idle won't fluctuate and sometimes it will... After a couple of more selected mods (hpipe, gears, C&L inlet pipe, Accufab 75mm TB) I'll be getting my Stang on the dyno.. :D

Does the Pro-M Optimizer work on the Factory MAF or do you have to have a Pro-M MAF?

Also can you use it on more than one car?

It's a plugin for the factory MAF meter. It does not permanently set the MAF to a specific A/F ratio (like a Pro M MAM/F is set from the manufacturer) you have to leave it installed. It's a bolt on and stay kind of part. The Pro M does nothing to the cars ECU / computer it just gives you the ability to adjust the voltage ( Lean or Rich) setting of the factory MAM/F. It does not work like the Tweecer or the MAFterburner.

Oh and to answer your question
Also can you use it on more than one car?
yes you can use it on multiple cars but once you take it off the MAM/F defaults back to the factory settings.

does it lean the car out throughout the whole rpm range.. or does it let you adjust per rpm's..

so if your car is running fat up to 3k.. and then lean out up top.. can you just adjust from 500-3000k??

Yeah, I plan to get dyno'd in the next month or so and I'll get an A/F there or even could just tweek it by hand and use my SOTP. I'm debating whether to get them to tune it (xxtuning in CT since my RA has a hookup) or get the Optimizer. I wouldn't have the benefit of going back there multiple times when I do changes (2 hour drive) and plus the only other things I'd use a chip for is 4.10 speed recal (when I get them hopefully) and timing. However, I don't want to bump my timing anytime soon and I'd just get a TA if I do.

So maybe the Optimizer is for me... hmm
