Ok, my cigarette lighter inside my shifter bezel isn't connected anymore because i replaced that spot with a switch which controls something else.

So now my cigarette lighter is (still connected and) floating around in the area under my cd player behind the plastic shifter bezzel.

i hooked up my phone charger too it and let it chill back there with the cigarette lighter--i wired the phone charger to just barely stick out of the ash tray area by the e-brake so i can charge my phone without the messy wire hanging all over.

So heres the question:

Does having this charger always connected and hanging out back there impose any sort of fire hazard/battery drainage?

Thanks guys,

edit: i just read my original response, and i was not even close to answering the question since i was pretty drunk when i wrote it.

to answer your question, i do not think that that would have any fire hazard risk or drain the battery at all.

I didnt pretend to understand the situation :p but if it were me, I'd insulate the terminals on the cig lighter outlet that floats. I've added them to many cars and always did this myself - just in case the positive wire wanted to dance with ground.

If you feel like it, you can buy a nice outlet that has a little bracket for a few bucks at the parts stores (I got one for the 88, since it lacks the extra plug like the 94-95's have).

Those outlet plugs are hot at all times, right? If so, check the amp-hour charge rating of your phone - that should provide a clue as to how parasitic charging the phone (with the car off) is. I personally would not think charging a phone overnight would do much to a healthy 500+ CCA battery.

Good luck and sorry if I misunderstood.

Ok, thanks hissin--your always a help. Btw here are some pictures to explain what my words couldn't lol:
