I didnt read any of the responses, but you can take of the glass part of the cluster and move each number by hand with a needle or thin screwdriver. I know cuz I did it.....you'll figure it out but you'll have to move certain numbers first cuz some numbers will move when you move one....I cant explain it but you'll figure it out

His odometer wont roll back on its own. Hes just worried about them thinking theres not enough miles between testing, not fewer miles. Not that its really a big deal in this case, but if you do anything to alter the mileage reading other than actual driving, its odometer fraud by the letter of the law. Though it does usually pertain to rollback not adding miles. At the end of the day though theyre not supposed to be tampered with. I think your best bet would be to get it fixed properly as soon as possible.

It's on my list of things to do, Zero_chance, but I don't drive it enough anyway. I'm at school the whole year while my car sits home.
It's official though, I just aged my car. I use gueros method...took a little more force than I originally thought, and half the gears are missing on the main drive gear.

My speed sensor is fine because my speedo works fine, I think its the small gear that turns the odometer in the gauge cluster or trip counter that is my problem. The trip counter doesn't spin, and neither does the mileage. I don't want to have any problems with my carfax.

Thanks Guero...I might try that...

Your odometer gears are the problem. Our crappy black ones from factory suck at this age, very brittle plastic. I replaced them with these like tough ass plastic ones that are guarenteed to be better. If you take the cluster out and remove the cluster from the housing you can actually spin the odometer gear by hand to put the miles u need on it

I'm just concerned, because how does it show up on carfax? How does carfax get that information? I would assume it was each year when the car goes for emissions/inspection...but maybe not?

Thats why you give a odo reading on the title when you sell the car.Carfax only shows the odo. reading every time the car changes hands.
Say you trade it in it will show milage when a dealership files the title.3mos. later the next person buys the car it shows milage at buy date when title files for next person.

You just said it sits while your at school all year. There is what you tell them if they give you any ****.Like said before they can't tell you how many miles you can and cant put on your car.

When I pulled the V6 out of mine, I bought the cluster of the car that I got the engine from (it had much lower miles) If and when I sell mine the new owner will get both clusters to prove the millage isn't a lie.
