problem #6511687 trans or torque conv?

since last night my transmission has been acting up, at a redlight or stop sign etc my car will rev itself up and then catch, sort of like im going from nuetral to drive, and when i accelerate my rpms jump up to 3000 and then it catches and my wheels bark, i know for a fact its either the transmission (A4LD) or my torque convertor, if i was to change the trans filter and oil would this help or not?

Hi,

My Stang's doing he same thing - I haven't been by a tranny shop yet, but a good friend tells me that it's most likely one of the clutch packs (Yes, automatics have them) wearing out, and that at best I have 6 months to a year of serviceable life left on it.

Anyone have anything to add to this?

You can service the tranny (filter,fluid) but what you probably will find is lots of metal shavings. Rebuilds around here run $800-1200. I found a good used one for my daughter's 91 for $300 w/ converter and installed it myself. Sorry.

If you change the oil, start looking for a new tranny. Read up, and learn the 2.3 ways... your next upgrade should be a 5 speed

sounds to me like you're either a tad low on tranny fluid or the bands are starting to wear out enough to allow for the slipping...
