Well turns out it was the alternator itself causing my massive voltage spike. I put my DVOM on it and it read 20v so when I took the alternator out to give it another inspection. I foud there are 2 solid wires that go from the stator to the rotor and one was broken. So they where touching at idle, but I guess anywhere after 4000 RPM they would seperate and cause an arch that would create a massive voltage spike. So I replaced the alternator with a 130 amp (upgraded from the 110 amp) And now I turn the A/c on and the car doesnt drop rpm's anymore and I can run it full with the system maxxed and the needle on the dash doesnt budge ( I took the old regulator which was still good and the brushes out of the old one, so i have some spare parts jic )

Nice work.

How did you end up with a 110 amp alt before?

Factory alternator Damn thing still worked too. I am sure that with some solder I could have fixed it, but It was time for a new one.

All 94-95's have 130 amp alts AFAIK.

I've seen healthy ones max out at over 140 amps before, which was why I asked. In the cases where there's less output, it could be a 'Monday' alternator, or it had already dropped a diode.

Probably did drop one. But now the car seems to be so much happier with the new alternator. Voltage is very stable and car actually idles better and smoothly and A/C doesnt mess with the car idle either and before the a/c would make a loud clunk noise when the coil engaged now it doesnt do that anymore. plus its nice to open the hood and see more new parts But because of this I now have to hold off on the lowering springs...

It's always nice when you fix something and it makes a nice tangible difference. Most things I do don't have this effect.

Ya know, if you havent, I'd give the regulator wiring and charge cable wiring a once over (peel back the loom and look). It sure would suck to have more issues because of a short. That wiring gets hot and vulcanizes.

I had to redo all of my stuff when I got the car. I went from a 400 mV drop (alt to PDC) to a 5 mV drop. We just don't want ya to have more issues (unless it's a LLT alt, in which case who cares. ).
