problem when taking off fast

When I am at a dead stop and floor it the car will kinda stutter then go like it going to go dead almost. I can't really describe it any other way. I have changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor. It has a new air filter and the maf has been cleaned. I have a fuel filter but have not installed it yet, could it be that? The car has around 76k miles with an aode. Pretty much stock except whats in the sig.

the car was warm when this happened

it kind of sounds like this problem

sounds like this too

could it be my timing? I have never touched it.

It almost sounds like when I just rev it up it is backfiring.

timing check problem

I just tried checking my timing but I could not. It was rusted so bad that I could not see any numbers. Can I check it without seeing numbers?

If you have a timing light with an advance dial all you need is the 0* mark on your balancer. Try and find it, clean up some of the rust if you need to. Mark it so it stands out. Then you should be able to find your timing by aiming at the pointer with the light and adjusting the dial.

I am almost certain the timing light does not have an advance dial. I am just now learning this and this is one my brother had. I guess if It does not have an advance dial I can try to clean the rust off most of it. sounds like fun

The other way would be to loosen the distributor clamp and adjust the timing with the spout connector off. You would need to mark where you want your timing at though, 10* etc. You wouldn't know what your timing is now though and if its off.

I changed my fuel filter today but still have the same problem. I have not gotten a chance to clean up and check the timing. When the car is in park it will rev fine but once its in gear the rpms will climb slow till around 2k. Something else that I have noticed is that I have gone 102 miles and have a 1/4 tank of gas left.

Anyone else have ideas of what it could be?

not really, it will kind of hang between gears for a second before shifting.

It sounds like the timing is your problem. Disconnect the spout connector, and see how the car idles. If the car wants to die, loosen the distributor, and advance the timing a little bit until it idles smooth. Plug the spout connector back in, and take the car for a drive. Does it hesitate? Does it ping?

I think that I fixed the timing problem. It looked like it was on around 4-6 but I think I put it on around 10-11. The cars idle seemed a little faster. I test drove it and I don't think it has any hesitiation but I still don't think its as strong as it should be. If it was spinning it wasn't much.

So far I have added new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, fuel injection cleaner(stp cheap stuff), cleand maf. Its pretty much stock with flowmasters, gutted mac h pipe, shift kit and 3.27s. Shouldn't I be able to spin pretty good?

I have added a K&N air filter about 500 miles ago. I was reading where that can get oil on the maf sensor. Then I was looking at cleaning it but it was not the same way I cleaned it. I got some rubbing alochol and a q-tip. I also cleaned it while it was in this

I did not take it out like this

should I get something better to clean it with and take it out all of the way? Or is the way I cleaned it good enough?
