As stated in my subject. I went in for my first oil change @ 3k miles. As far as I knew the following options were included with the GT Track Package:

carbon fiber torsen diff with 3:73 gears, boss 302 diff housing with rear cooler cover, brembo brakes, perf friction pads front and rear, boss 302 coolers, boss 302 radiator, GT 500 trailing arms, bushings, sway bars, specifically calibrated springs, struts and shocks etc . 19"x9" wheels, 5w-50 oil, no spare, etc.

Did they actually put 5w-50 in from the factory. I am pretty positive they did but having 3 service techs who are all of 20 years old argueing with me about it gets very very old. They basically said and almost to the T "The only thing that was added on the track package is the suspension". Then I had them put a question into Ford, however they go about that, and they came back with Ford supposedly saying the same thing.....

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. This dealership is getting on my nerves... /end rant

I would love to get a response from a Ford rep here in the forum because I trust you 1000% more than I trust some kid at the dealership who is just too proud to admit he has no clue what is added to my car in the package.

Thanks in advance!

@FordCustSrvc

That little tag above will alert them to come in and see this thread.

I am however, moving this thread to the TALK section as your question does not actually ask for a solution to a technical problem (or give one).

Best of luck on a resolution to your problem though.

If you are arguing with them about oil viscosity just have them look at the oil fill cap. It shoud run ya about $120 for 8 1/2 qts. Of full synthetic 5w 50 . Had mine changed at dealership. The first oil change is on the house. I would go to a different dealer for service.

Hi Lopez10GT,

Yes, if your vehicle is a GT with the GT Track Package, it came with 5w-50 oil from the plant and this is what it takes. As per your Owner's Manual, we recommend:Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5W-50 Motor Oil, Ford Part# XO-5W50-QGT, Ford specification WSS-M2C931-B.

It should most definitely take 5W50, mine says it right on the oil fill cap. The problem is that Ford used 5W20 for sooooo long that especially new techs don't know any different.

Also there is an error in the owners manual for the Track Pack. No friction modifier is required in the differential because there are no clutches in a Torsen unit. Also mine specs DOT 4LV brake fluid, but the cap on the master cylinder says DOT 3.

Thank you all for the replies. Was thinking to myself maybe I am wrong. So they called back yesterday and said to me "The Engineer we contacted at Ford said not to use 5w50 because it will ruin your motor and void your warranty"......

FordCustSrvc thank you sooo much. I just looked at the 1st print of the owners manual for the 14 and it says Track Package takes 5w50. If they still refuse to accept the fact it does accept that oil is there a way to get someone at Ford to contact this dealership and fix them.

Thanks lots.

Additionally is there any way to get a printout, a no one that shows everything that was added to the GT's with the Track Package. I am sure I am going to need ammo for my defense and not for these guys but down the road also. Thanks guys/gals.

Hmm don't see a way to edit the post. How can you verify that you actually have the track pack on the car? In the data plate information? I know I do because of the torsen differential, finned axle cover, brembo brakes, wheels, etc. For some reason I now have a 5w-20 oil cap on my motor and before I am 99.99% positive i had a 5w-50 cap when I bought the car. I checked over the car when I got it and I know I saw that cap which leads me to believe they replaced it..... wow is all I can say.

You’re very welcome, Lopez10GT! The easiest way to tell if your vehicle came equipped with the GT Track Package is your window sticker. If it has it, then you’re correct about the oil cap. It does say 5W-50 directly on it. Please PM me with your VIN so I can double check for you.

Track pack cars also have an oil cooler, but the motors in the non track pack cars are otherwise identical. Ford wants 5w-20 blend in the non track pack cars probably because it gives you a little better gas mileage and it's fairly cheap. My guess is Ford wanted 5w-50 full synthetic in the track pack cars because someone might actually run them on the track and the 5w-50 synthetic holds up better under high heat. Track pack cars aren't real common so either the dealer saw the 5w-50 cap and decided it was a mistake and changed it to 5w-20 like all the other 5.0 Mustangs on their lot.. Or they didn't feel like giving away $12 quart oil and figured you wouldn't notice the difference..

So sadly...I appear to be victim of this as well. The other day my brother was talking about his $120 oil change for his Roush RS3...I was a little surprised because I've always had my car serviced since new at Ford dealerships and the bill has always been in the $50 range...Now I know why...When looking at the repair invoices, they have been putting 5W20 in the car. This has been done since the 1st oil change and the car has 28k on it now. The oil has been changed 5 times. It's never been to the track, and despite the occasional 'goosing' of the throttle it hasn't seen any real performance driving. I did however, recently do a dyno day where the car had 3 pulls. Needless to say I'm a bit upset....I trusted (lol) my Ford dealer to know what the car needs based on...well...it saying so on the oil cap...to running the VIN and seeing what the car has in regards to options. Is Ford not educating their techs on this? This didn't happen at just one dealership but FOUR in my state (I move around a bit lol). I contacted Ford Customer Service who 'escalated' it to the dealerships...I don't know what to expect here...From what I have read the car should be fine unless I really get it out and race it, but should I expect any damage to the engine?

Reason for difference is s synthetic blend and not full synthetic ? My '12 was always changed and informed them full syn and that was what was billed for ...112.00 everytime
