problem with friends 02 GT

my friend has a 02 GT automatic with 40k miles, his car will not go any faster than 70mph@ about 5000rpm, is this a problem with his gears or what

if that is in stock gearing meaning the 3.27's. then he is in 2nd gear nearing redline hmmmm.... has he done a fluid and filter change lately?????

so its not shifting the way it should while in D going through 1,2,3rd gear and O/D

When you take off from a stop count to make sure the tranny is actually shifting through all the gears or just going up to 3rd. My guess is that the tranny is trashed

Be more specific on the issue. List mods and/or what maintenance has been done to the car.

if it cant go passed 5k, put the pedal down farther.

Its a transmission problem, If the car will rev to 5000 rpms then it should go more than 70 mph, I agree its probably stuck in second gear..
