Bought a Tremec TKO600 tranny for the car we built over the winter. 351 stroked to 408, carbed and n/a. Brand new SFI bell housing, brand new Zoom clutch, brand new clutch cable with adjustment. No matter what you do, you can't get this thing into 3rd gear unless you double clutch it. Aside from driving round and round a parking lot and a handfull of low rpm passes at the track just to put it through it's paces, this thing has been far from abused. It had already gone to a Tremec dealer where they replaced the shifting lugs per Tremec and no success. Same thing. This tranny has been a problem from day one and we've had to pull it twice already.
Tremec is telling me that there's nothing wrong with the tranny because they don't have problems and it's in the clutch, the this the that , yada yada yada. Then they are trying to say that it's not meant to be raced and they can send out parts and yada yada yada. Bottom line is if it's not meant to be raced why is it advertised as a high performace transmission with Ford Racing decals in the adds and states how it can handle up to this and that horsepower. You know I can understand if this thing broke because it was being raced but I can't even get a full pass out of cause it's been a problem since day one. Now I'm being told basically tough and I can pay to fix it. At this point, depending on what it cost, it would be an option I guess but I can't get a straight answer on what's wrong with the friggen thing. Everything but the trans is getting blamed.
This is pretty much a bunch of horse**** as far as i'm concerned and for a name like Tremec, i'm pretty disappointed in how they want to handle this. Their warranty states that it should not be shifted over 6500 rpm, which it hasn't even COME CLOSE TO. We used the GM fluid in it, drove it around, put it on jack stands and kept shifting it back and forth. It has NEVER been power shifted. It has never been used in "competition" as stated either.
All I want is what I paid for, and what I paid for was a BRAND NEW transmission that works, not one that has a problems. This thing is brand new and i've already spent two months playing around and getting aggrivated. Now it's out of the car all over again and it can be shipped here and there. But i've been flat out told that if it's shipped to Tremec, it will come back with a bill because they don't warranty anything. I don't want to play guinnea pig. Not with a brand new motor and not when nobody is compensating me for having to put this thing in and out of the car.
There have been posts on here before regarding a shifting issue with these transmissions. I've even heard several times that there has been an "unofficial" problem with shifting on these, which was stated right from Tremec themselves.
Like I said, If i did something to damage the tranny, it would even be an issue, but this thing has SUCKED since day one and has never been drivable and the only answers I've gotten is it's everything else that's broken, wrong, or whatever excuse they can find.
What is you folks take on this?
