so some kid at school just got a new m6 for his 18th birthday. sick car, but now mine is not the fastest by far. so my dad is considering buying me a procharger p-1sc kit. i know i will have to get a tune after the install but i was wondering if we can install it ourselves. it says that with simple hand tools and illustrated instructions, it takes 12-14 hours to install. and since i'm still not the most experienced mechanic, i'm counting on more like 20 hours haha. but we have an extra car so im planning on must not having the stang for a while. so the simple question is no matter how long it takes, could we do it ourselves with simple hand tools? and if it is not safe to drive without a tune, how do u get it to the shop to get it tuned?

Buy a Mogoose kit from Modular Powerhouse. It comes with a great tune.

If Im not mistaken Tim said they will soon be offereing Procharger kits, and that was back in the summer. You would have to call and speak with them about availability of the Procharger kits. Their Vortech and Paxton kits are great too; all 3 options are capable of producing more power than your stock internals can handle.

You can do the install yourself, just take your time and try not to get frustrated.

you could still drive it to the shop to get it tuned, its not like it wolnt run.. well.. as long as u do everyting right. the install can be pretty technical with the inntercooler and all. idk, nothing impossible

well i dont even want to get close to the most power my internals can handle. im scared of messin anything up. so can i get over 400 rwhp with a kit that doesnt have an intercooler, to make the install easier. and i cant find a kit on modularpowerhouse.com for an 01 cobra.

goddamn....I had the wrong daddy! A new M6 for a 18th bday?!?!?

And don't drive it without a tune. After spending all that money on the S/C....its worth the extra few bucks to have it flatbed'd to your local tuner.

just be careful man, i knew more than enough kids when i was in highscool (not that long ago im in college) who totalled their cars with a lot less than 400hp. At least possibly wait till spring for a supercharger, S/C's in the winter are a learning experiance.

well if i dont want something as serious as a supercharger, can i build my car up to 400 rwhp with just bolt ons. i dont kno how much RWhp it came with so i dont kno what to add the increases of the mods to.

you wont get anywhere near 400hp with bolt-ons. Call MPH (or post in the Ask Rhonda forum) and tell them you have an 01 Cobra, Im sure they can hook you up, or at least point you in the right direction.

You can run 8-10psi w/o and intercooler and make plenty of power safely. But dont go over 10psi. In fact, it would probably be smart to stay around 8psi until you get used to the power.

Your dad gets a 9/10. I wish my dad tried to live vicariously through me in highschool, making sure I was the fastest and all. Your dad definately ranks up their near the coolest.

As for the other kid's dad... 2/10, cuz it's now how much money you spend, but how you spend it. AMIRITE???

I guess an intercooler would make that much more power, or at least make your engine that much safer. But if you'd rather avoid that during the install at this point, yeah, keep the boost as low as possible to smoke his beamer ass and keep your engine safe. Cuz his engine definately won't be blowing up on race day.

Then again, you do have a cobra, so I guess you'd be safe over 400hp? Then it comes down to your inexperience with that much power I guess.

If the kit you buy comes with a chip, or handheld tuner, you will be fine driving it to a shop just don't get into boost until you have the a/f checked. If it doesn't, you can not drive it with the new inectors. It will run, but it will run so rich that it would foul the plugs long before you got to the shop.

yea just stay out of boost. my tuner told me the same thing. in the summer im putting in a forged engine and a blower on top of that. i cant tune the blower because the engine has to be broken in first before going wot.

my tuner said i have to drive it 1000 miles with the blower on and no tune. i just have to stay out of boost.

Keep in mind that he means no dyno tune. You have to have some sort of tune to compensate for the new injectors, MAF, ect. or you can not drive the car.

Go with the Mongoose kit, have had zero problems with it in the 3 years I've had mine. Although, I'd vote for the KB kit...

IMO you are spoiled, sorry. I hope you at least have a job. Your dad is buying you a SC since someone else has the "fastest" car now? No matter if you get the SC, you still won't be as fast as his car. That M6 will smoke you easily, sorry again.

Don't worry, that guy is more spoiled than you. He'll probably total it within a few months cause he (1) don't drive as well as he thinks he can and (2) probably can't handle that much power.

What is America coming to nowadays when an 18 year old gets a 70k car without doing **** for it? Geez.
