I have a 351 that I need to replace the ignition system on, not using the stock EEC-IV anymore. Has anyone used or have any good information on the Proform HEI Distributor? It is very similar to GM models. Looks pretty neat for a DD..... Let me know what you think.

I've heard good things about them, I'm thinking about using one on my 302. You cant beat the one wire hookup and clean look.

For those that are curious, I went with the Proform. It seems to work well although I haven't been able to really put it through its paces yet....still waiting on a tag.

Otherwise, it is basically a GM HEI style distributor with a ford shaft on the end. It seems to work well and took me about 15 minutes to drop it in, run the wire, and get it running good. I no longer need the computer and it runs like a top

Very good to hear your experience LB. I've actually recommended people take a look at the HEI style distributors in the past when trying to do away with the Duraspark or converting to carb, versus going the MSD route. They look very attractive to me just based on price alone, since they're a self-contained ignition system that needs essentially nothing to make them work except a 12v power source, and cost a fraction of what it would take to pick up an MSD.

I've got one of the eBay no-name HEI's on my carbed Cobra Replica and it works fine. I haven't gotten a tag for it yet, but the couple of times around the block, it worked fine.
