My fellow Stangers,
I spent many hours tonight searching for engine info on several forums, hopefully someone (Uncle Meat, you seem well versed, got 2 cents?) has all the answers. Is the 4V DOHC Mustang engine the same throughout the 96 to 03 line, with minor improvements along the way? Any and all opinions welcome, please no "my motor will beat your motor" pissing contests.
I'm just curios about the motors history, and was not able to find enough info online. Reason being, I am pulling the Teksid motor out my 99 Cobra. A 03 Mach 1 crate motor is going its place. If I can get the $$$ I want, I will sell the 99 motor. If not, I will rebuild it with FR500 parts and swap it out again down the road. Here is what I heard...
The Mach 1 motor (as I am told) is an improved version of the 99/01 Cobra motor. It uses the same intake manifold as the 99/01 Cobra. It has the same heads found on the 03/04 Cobra. It has 5.4L cams (2 of the 4 anyway), and improved exhaust manifolds. The compression ratio is also greater. True or False? Dare I say it is an aluminum Terminator motor with non-forged internals and no blower?
I see that Ford Racing offers (offered) a "Cobra" crate motor (part #M-6001-C460) with extra stuff I don't need (tranny, computer, harness, ect) and the 03 Mach 1 crate motor (part #M-6007-M146) as direct replacements. Ford Racing's customer help line said the Mach would swap right in, no issues. Anybody done this yet? I figure if the Mach motor is an improved version of mine it only makes sense to buy that one right?
