Project "Face Off": 1980 Mercury Capri aero to four eye Progress Thread!

Make her do her own work for that. You should also withold sex from her too! :nice:

NEVAR!!! :ban:

Anyway...

We went to Surprise today (long effing drive!) and got more offerings to the Capri Gods. Yay! Got the rear bumper, '79 - '80 (I think???) middle grill piece, and next weekend, I'm trading the same guy my Saleen wing for his three-piece spoiler. If he still has it.

The Capri that the parts came off of is being converted into an aero Stang.

Bumper is on and painted, just need to finish buttoning up the button edge and doing something about the side trim (mainly just stripping the crap off), and it's all done. :nice:

Well ... except for that one lonely pony badge still lingering in the interior on the dash... :nono:

im sure its been answered but i cant read through all 10 pages, what are you guys doing with the saleen air dam? i have always LOVED how those look and wouldnt mind having one, hell you guys are close enough to warrant a uhm "vacation" to come pick it up

It's still there. Nothing gonna be done about it until such time as we get around to completely redoing the paint on the car and filling in all the little dents and stuffs.
Sorry, what I ment was is it behind one of the braces? Cause if its not it would be easy with a 2x4 and a flat headed hammer to bring it back into shape. Just lightly pound on it and make it flat again. Remember to do it lightly and slowly, ask the metal to go back to shape, dont force it and it should be great. Also, the paintless dent repair places around here would only charge 50-80 bucks to knock that out :nice:

I'll have to look again, but I'm pretty sure the dent is right under one of those front braces. :(

The rear bumper is now on and fully adjusted into place. Lynn is not happy with it because there's a gap between the bumper and the taillights, but it can't really be helped right now because her rear bumper support(s) is/are bent from when she was rear-ended years ago. Maybe someday when there's copious amounts of time and free energy, I'll get a gigantic BFH and pound the thing back into alignment or something, but for now, this is as good as it gets.

Also pulled off the side trim and gave it a quick sand and spray of satin black, so whenever we get the rear quarter trim off that '84 SVO in the 'yard we can slap that on there and almost be finished with the exterior stuff (the final step being the hatch, which is gonna be a PITA to fill all those holes and stuff left by the whale tail wing).

:( Looks like ass (no pun intended ).

I think my bumper support is bent down a bit from being rearended about 10 years or so ago or the bumper support is wrong for this bumper. The bumper sags bad.

Dave is doing a great job and I really appreciate all his hard work but nothing seems to be fitting right. It's the car's fault! :fuss:

Next to go will be the LX tail lights and Saleen wing.

If I recall correctly the bumper on my Capri is thicker and looks to me to be much of a more complete bumper. Like the front the aero stangs have that plastic thing they call a bumber while my Capri has a metal bumper. Maybe getting a 79-86 rear bumper from a Stang or Capri would help the ass fitment better.

That's what I was thinking. I just don't want to make him take it off again. I feel bad. :(
