So here's the thread... the story was of course a tragic end to a sweet coupe... and within a few days I found a new coupe to start building using the remains of my 91 lx...

The new shell is an 80 Coupe of some sort and I think it was originally an I6....

Some pics to start off... the shell I picked up as seen here for 325... not bad i think. No tranny or engine...

Picked up a bumper, header panel, and a fender from the junk yard for $116

I plan to reuse as much as possible from my 91. Still need a radiator and most likely a K-member...

I'll try to keep this up to date as possible... goal is a month from now it'll run. We'll see

That looks like a great foundation for your new coupe... you guys don't have much rust in New Mexico, do you? :D It looks like the interior is a mix of black and blue, you could easily get some door panels and carpet, and paint the rest of the vinyls with SEM products and clean that all right up! I have to admit, I wish you were keeping it a 4 eye, but as long as you're saving a mustang from the crusher i guess it's alright in my book! Keep us posted! :nice:

Oh.. I forgot.. I bought a mustang with a title... a real one... not a salvage title... woot woot...

it takes water or moisture to have rust... we dont have either of those things in the desert :nice: NM ftw

Not bad, good start...I LOVE that steering wheel...

I REALLY wish I had bought back the 79 hatch I used to own. Coulda had it last week for 300 complete...though that includes plenty of rust. Seeing that you got your shell for 325, I am officially kicking myself for not doing it...

...it has the same steering wheel, too.

Is there any possibility that wheel would fit my car? I kinda want to keep it... i know i'll loose the cruise control and airbag... but i dont want the airbag anyway.

Well you are swapping over as much as possible from the 91 to the 80, correct? Does that include the dash and such? I am not 100% positive but i do think they go on differently. If it was me I would leave the interior in place just get it the right color, or maybe at most swap in a black dash from a similar year car if black interior is the plan. Use some 84-86 GT gauge surround panels and keep the steering wheel and it will be pretty sweet. Someone with more experience with interior swaps could probably answer that question better than I can.

leave the column and wheel and swap the whole interior out of the 91 into the 80 i think that would work?

Otherwise im sure you could get that wheel on the 91 column. I wanna see pics of the 91 wrecked.

Its been awhile since any updates... I picked up a K-member today for 30 bucks... and while i was at my local u-pull-it junkyard I found a jewel... an 80-something Capri, T-tops, 5.0, 5spd, tan interior... I'm swapping to the capri front end and fenders... stoked... I'll put up pics tomorrow...

peace

very nice foundation.i will keep up with your thread.
keeping it 4 eye...:hail2:
converting to aero....

you got alot of work ahead of you.my buddy just picked up a 93 notchback 4 cyl 5spd for 800.00 today.its perfect on the outside lucky pr ick...

I would like to say yes about the quarter panels... but in a junkyard setting, with hand tools... I can't imagine being able to get them off... they are hatch quarters.. i'd have to cut out as much of them as i could and then trim them down and partially re-skin the quarters of my coupe...

I'd would be a huge pita i think... but it could be done...

I dont know what it would look like with just the front fenders and no rear fender flare's.. any pics? any thoughts? what would be the best way to pull the 1/4 skins from the capri?

I cant edit the first post anymore...
here's the pics...

Got some work done... I also picked up a DD... a 90 Escort Station Wagon... 61k original..

So now I can take my time and do work on the coupe as time permits...

Stripped most of the interior and the engine bay, sanded the rust off... Painted the engine bay and the k-member today... The engine bay will be black, my wife is still deciding the color of the car... so hopefully she'll pick a good one...

Finally got the engine hoist and pulled the motor/tranny... i got it mostly cleaned up (not in these pictures). i still have to figure out what i did with the old tranny cross-member... it may be in the trunk of the coupe... but i need it. if you didn't know, the 79-81 mustangs had a different transmission cross-member.. but i don't think i can use it because it's a single exhaust car (being an old striaght 6 ghia)... so i think i'll have to somehow modify a double hump to fit the 80... bummer.

more pics to follow in the next day or two. i need to pull the wiring harness out of the 91, the dash, and a few other things... but so far so good... it's a long project ahead, but i feel like i'm finally making forward progress again...

It's been awhile... I've run into i think the last problem i'll have...

but i'm due for a few new pics... i thought for the body maybe these would spice up the front end a lil... +hp if you can name the car they came from

the fender's aren't attached... just hanging for a quick pic or two.

i'm waiting on a set of rotors to come from PA, then to the machine shop... then a couple days of buttoning a few things up.

Left to do:
-e brake install, and adjust parking brake
-bleed brake system
-bolt in seats
-hang doors, fenders, new trunklid, taillights, headlights
-torque driveshaft bolts,
-install exhaust (lol, not much there)
-fill power steering
