NEW PICTURES!!!!!!!! disconbooberation of 302

The old block taken apart....

All of the 302's internal parts

The block's side Main Bearings.....

Rod's side Rod Bearings....

Bottom side Main AND Rod bearings...

Crankshaft.... Look how much wear is on the place where the 1st main bearing goes... the crank is really rough to the touch

Every part on or inside of a motor.....AKA a mess!!

I guess i had a few bad bearings huh???? my guess is that the #1 MAIN bearing got out of wack and then it put stress on the others.... i had knocking and no oil pressure, both kept getting worse...

Good memory

actually i have done the HG 3 times since feb, i've gotten good at memorizing where all the wires go.

i had oil in my motor then i forgot it was in there when i took the timing cover off and turned the block over....so now i have a huge mess on the shop floor

thought I read some time ago that Vortech's put more stress on the forward main bearing, due to the extra belt tension...you thinking that's what got ya? Good luck with the new stuff

Did the motor have high milage on it? Is it the stock bottom end? If so, I can see why you spun a bearing running a supercharger. Pressure on the crank from the pistons prolly caused the premature wear, thus spinning dem berins. New motor looks TOP NOTCH.

96+ Cobra hood on a 94/95 cobra? I had that same look on my old vert, but some bia made me change it to a Cervini's 95 Cobra R by crunching my car. I am going to fix the small damage on the hood soon, paint it black, and have two hoods. Swap em out, kinda like womens makeup! Wish I had a set of wheels to do that!

only 70,000 miles on the motor, it was only sc'ed for about 7,000 miles

not really sure...it wasnt only the front main bearing, it was all the main bearings and some rod bearings... i began to notice the noise after i put my cam in back in Feb.

Good to see yuo figured it out Mike. As soon as I saw that the pictures of the main bearings, I was like, there shouldn't be that much wear there! Oh yea, you need to resize the pics! It takes FOREVER to load on my work computer!

well, i took the main caps, and rod caps off the "freshly rebuilt" motor to find that #2 main cap bearing was starting to wear, you could barley see some copper color come through, all the other bearings were in decent shape, the crank looked to be in really good shape (turned .010 under with rebuild)
the question is, should i get all new bearings because of 1 bad one? or should i not worry about it and just start slapping it together?
where is the best place to get bearings and rings? and what brand? they are clevite 77's in there now.... i'll try to get some pictures up of the "new bearings" ....smaller pictures that is

oh i also measured the bore of the 306 verses the bore of the 302 to find that it IS indeed a 306!! i was pumped because when i bought it, i measured the bore to find that it was 4.019 and not 4.030 like i had hoped to find. but it is .030 bigger than the 302 that was in my car....so im pumped!

its been a while, i was waiting on some parts (bearings, High volume oil pump, rings ect.) but i finally had some time last night to work on the 306...

Good catch Mike she seems like a keeper. If they don't mind and help that is rare, glad to see the progress coming along nicely. Also take this for what it's worth but I have heard/read (here on stangnet)that high volume oil pump require a deep oil pan. At higher rpm they can suck the stock 5 qt pan low/dry. Don't know how accurate it is, but I'd hate to see you have to this all over again. Good luck.

EDIT-I would do a search to verify how true this is or start a tread.
