I live in North Carolina. I've been using 10W-30 penzoil non-synthetic.

I went to an Xpress Lube a couple days ago, and they put 5W-20 in, Havoline synthetic ( I think it was synthetic).

Would this be all right for my location, such as temperature and such? It gets pretty hot here, even though we are on the downside of that now. I was just wondering if this is an all right oil to be switching to. Does anyone recommend any other kind of oil to be better, such as brand or weight?

Thanks!

5w-20 is the recommended oil by Ford....they also recommend Ford semi-synthetic...

Personally, I use Mobil 5w-30....so do many others here. Just make sure you use the motorcraft FL-820s oil filter no matter what...no Fram stuff. The Motorcraft filter has the silicone anti-drainback plug to keep motor oil from draining back into the pan (helps cold startup).

Well, that is the Mobil 1 oil that supposedly meets the 5w-20 Ford Spec.

I just do not like the idea of such a light oil....especially in hot weather...

:nice:

Mobile 1 does NOT make a 5w-20 Oil. If you check on the bottle and on the web site, it says 0w-20 is fine for us in 5w applications.

Mobile 1 0W20 in mine. FWIW, I read in the SHM 4.6 book that the modular motor's lash adjusters and chain tenshioners are designed for 5W20 oil, thats why its the recommended oil.

the ford dealerships near me stop using the 5 20 because when it gets hot it doesnt have much viscosity (actually had to replace some bearins this summer) DO NOT USE PENNZOIL!!!! go with mobil 1 5w 30
