i know what the egr does and the smog pump. but i still have them in my car. i kinda wanted to remove them for cleaning up the engine bay and also cause we dont have emissions. but besides cleaning up the enging bay real good what can i loose or gain by removing. technicaly by the book i will lose emisions and all that happy tree hugging stuff.
but as far as drivability, or proper engine contol etc... pretty much the title of the post pros and cons of the egr and smog pump removal. i really want to yank all the stuff out but dont want it to affect the performance of the engine.

Pros: less crap in the engine bay, I had a backfire on the downrevs and when I took off my smog pump it was gone, Easier to get to spark plugs.

Cons: If you dont do something with the EGR plunger to hold it down 1/2 way, it'll set off the CE light.

Pro's
Easier to access plugs, looks better, no rusted egr and header pipe, can see nice headers better, and of course looks cleaner.

Cons
I was told not to do it and I did for spite...
You will not pass emissions if you have to, I have none here.
Your car exhaust will stink to high hell.
You will get screwed if its required in your state inspection and you get caught and not pass.(save your stuff in case you need to put it back on)

what do you mean hold it down half way?

I am puting on a 93 intake with the 93 egr on there. the connectors are the same. I will just pug it in. do you think that will throw a code?

If you seperate the actual EGR valve the part with the conector that plugs into the harness will have a plunger on it and if its not held 1/2 way down it will throw codes... I get a CE light because I just left it off completly. If you have a tweecer you can go in and turn it off that way. I dont see why the 93 one wouldnt work if its the same plug and all.

Do something with your altinator. Polish it, paint it, or something. Its clean but needs some bling to go along with everything else

Did you use that spray can stuff on the parts under the hood? That paint comes in a spray can now or is that the same paint as for the car?

Same paint as my car. That pic is old, just wanted to show the egr stuff gone and that is the only overhead shot.

My EGR quit working about 2 years ago and nothing ever seemed to fix it and eventually, those vacuum lines associated with it got caught in my throttle causing an unpleasant incident. I just removed them and capped them off and as far as I can tell, I've had no side effects from the CEL or the EGR not working.

My AIR pump started dying about last year, so now it is bypassed. The exhaust smell changed none. Same old stink as always, which is a constant reminder of why I want to get rid of the off-road pipe.

Mine throws a a code but I don't suffer any effects from it. I just took the bulb out for the check engine so it doesn't stay on or you can have it corrected with a chip. You can order a polished EGR delete for the hole it will leave when it comes off. They also carry the bolt to cover the header where the pipe comes out. Wazee's EGR delete

Just the thread I've been looking for. So, when I do away with my egr and smog pump, can I get rid of the ugly confusing solenoids, etc. behind the passenger shock tower? What about vacuum lines? Plug em all off? Or is their a re-routing process? The wires going to solenoids and EGR? Can I hide or do away with them? I'm definitely wanting lessen the crowd and the amount of components to plug in and manage under my hood when I do my rebuild soon. Advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

when you take this components off, take off too any other hoses going to the components and cap them off with some vacum cap that you can buy at autozone. i dont know about disconnecting the ce light. it can be usefull for other stuff. if they would make a scanmaster for mustangs as they do for fbody than that would be an awsome idea. and the scanmaster would just tell you its the egr.
oh and by the way whats the size belt for the removal of the smog pump. i could messure it but if i had a belt number to go by just incase
