Protection packages (paint, leather, scotchgaurd)

Well I have an 2006 mustang GT on order. The dealer is offering me a Protection package which includes a paint sealant, a leather protector/sealant, scotch guard and undercoating.

I am wondering if you might be able to suggest a “do it yourself type” kit that would achieve the same results. I honestly don’t care for the paint protector because from what I know one has to use certain products and I like to be able to use a good quality wax every so often, but the other items might not be bad what do you think?

If you have any suggestions on the other items please let me know.

Well what they quoted me was $799, seems quite expensive to me.

Is the undercoating worth it?
Any suggestions on a scotchgaurd or leather protector I could do myself as this is really the valuable part to me but not '$799+tax valuable' .

No, No, No, No and No.

The paint protector is a scam, it's a polymer sealer similar to any polymer "wax" that you can buy yourself for $20 an put it on yourself.

Undercoating is worthless, especially since most of the lower sheet metal has a zinc coating on it.

You've already figured out the leather protector too.

The reason why the dealer is putting the hard sell on you is to jack up their profit. Their $800 protection package costs them less than $100.

dealers have used this racket for over 30 years as a way to increase there gross per car. they are making a ton of money at that price. get these things done by letting your fingers do the walking and that lump you feel in your pocket will be your savings. mitch e:nice:

take it to a place that details cars, and you will get qouted for musch less that the half price the dealer gave you, for the paint protections, the leather and scotch guard.
