PS catch can

Can you run the passenger side vent to a vented catch can or does it have to be sealed? I know it vents into the plenum but I’m not sure if venting it will effect the vacuum or how the car runs. Thought about dumping both valve covers into one catch can. Not sure if one will work for both or if one side needs to specifically vented or not vented. I’m about to make a power pipe and if I can delete lines or save welding in bungs any insight is appreciated. Thanks fellas

Thank for your reply Hemirick. So the write up I got for the power pipe is from stal94gt. In his write up he suggests running drivers side vent(pcv) to a vented catch can or just run a breather. No mention of the passenger side. So if the pcv system is supposed to remain sealed, how is he using a vented catch can? Or is it that the drivers side can be vented and the passenger side cannot? Can the 2 be combined into one catch can?and if so which catch can?

Think of the PCV system on our GTs as a loop. The system draws fresh air through a hose from the CAI to the driver side valve cover...thru the crankcase...out the passenger side valve cover/PCV with a hose to the intake (intake vacuum provides the circulation/draw) where it is included in the air mixture for the engine. With that in mind, to maintain your PCV system (for the crankcase ventilation benefits), you could place a vented cap on the driver side valve cover to allow the system a place to draw fresh air.

I retained the factory setup, but did place a catch can in the hose between the PCV and the intake. I spent ~$25 at Tractor Supply for a 3/4" Polypropolene Line Strainer w/80 mesh stainless steel screen and hose barbs. I stuffed a Chore Boy copper scrubbing pad into the mesh screen cage for some extra air scrubbing. Works great...collects abt a tablespoon of oil every 500 miles or so (throttle abuse dependent).

Thank you for the reply, I have a much better understanding of how the system works now. I am running a V3 supercharger and get oil in both locations. In the plenum and it pools right before the blower inlet in the coupling. I know with boost it’s a benefit to run a catch can. I figured with the stock V3 intake pipe and the driver side valve cover coming in before the blower I just assumed that it was pulling out of the valve cover. I wasn’t sure of the location or style for my set up. With mocking up a power pipe I wanted to make sure I didn’t leave anything out or put anything back not needed. By the way good design, saving money is always nice.
