So pulled motor and tranny. Eventually going turbo but was trying to maintain somewhat of a budget. Cylinders still look good but motor was filthy. So.... do all seals put it back together or pull it apart and do bearings and rings etc. Cranck has zero play. 87 forged internals.

The best way to check wear is with a micrometer. If you don't know how I'm sure a machine shop can help you out. Unless you are in hurry to get it back together why not make sure. In the big scheme rings and bearings don't cost that much if the wear is acceptable and no machining is needed you only need to hone the cylinders and check bearing clearance with some plasti gauge. Not that much more work or cost. Just my 2 cents worth.

If the turbo is coming, tear it down.Check everything,I'd go studs on mains, better rod bolts, head studs.I believe wider gaped rings for boost also.
