Why is it that most people say that when you install underdrive pulleys it is also a good idea to install a timing adjuster or a programmer to adjust the timing. What is the idea behind this? Do the pulleys cause detonation?

It's two relatively cheap (if you get the adjuster) mods that will produce a nice little gain if used together.

so it is not neccesary to get a timing adjuster when you install pulleys. i am planning on getting a set from steeda soon and i was just wondering. i didn't think that you would need the adjuster but i wasen't positive. how much more power can you get if you do add the adjuster with the pulleys. i have heard that you can get around 8-10 with the pulleys but how much will the timing adjuster give you?

People install both at the same time because both require you to remove the same pulley.
So what the heck, since the pulley is off, do both.

You don't have to, it's just easier if you plan on doing both eventually.A programmer will do the same thing as the t/a.
