The smog tube wont let the base of the shifter clear. tranny wont hang down because I cant get h-pipe out due to the smog tube. any suggestions ? that union where the smog tube connects to the cat looks like it would break if I tried to disconnect it there.

Guess I could pull out the shifter entirely by unbolting the ring inside the car and taking the lid off of the shifter housing but then tranny fluid will go all over. its getting late here and I have everything else unbolted. Neighbors are prolly getting pissed hearing the air tools.

Ummm...you are trying to pull the engine and tranny without removing the hpipe? I must be reading that wrong.

Anyway, cut the tube. It's not important and if you live somewhere that requires it there's a million ways to reconnect it. Chop chop.

Anyway I left it there and when i got the motor and trans it plopped down.got motor and tranny out. .my neighbors may not be too happy as I didnt finish till after 1:am. I figure once a year wont kill them.I work nights and no one

Most people cut that tube. Cut it on both sides of the union and then when it comes time to reassemble, use a short piece of 3/4" heater hose and two hose clamps.

IIRC, some aftermarket H-pipes ship with the rubber hose and 2 clamps.
