I've got my tranny all unbolted from the bellhousing and ready to pull out. The engine is still in the car I got a jack under the trans. I start to lower it and the engine tilts and lowers with it. Is this OK? Will it stop at some point? Do I need to support the rear of the engine, or will it lower some and just hang there? Will it be ok like that?

well it could hurt stock rubber motor mounts. i just put a bottle jack under the that back end of the oil pan. do not attempt to jack the engine up there. just enough to keep the engine balance.

I've heard people say that it's okay to let it tilt back, but I usually do the same as Black70Fastback and put a bottle jack under the back end before pulling out the tranny.

When I did my trans we droped the trans down a bit while it was attached to the engine so I could get to the top bolts of the housing. After I got the top ones loose a jaked the trans back up a but so it wouldent stress the other housing bolts. Then I unbolted the trans and just left it to be held up by the mounts. I have done this twice and i still have the stock mounts with 103k on them.
