pulling the 5.4 3v for gas milage

On the freeway at a 70-75 mile cruising speed with 3:73's I get 24-25. Do have the e brake on lol? Be bopping around I average 16.

I adverage a little under 20MPG. But the car is so much fun I dont worry about it. On the highway I get upper 24MPG.

My gas bill is around $400 per month....then with the $670 a month car payment, she gets pricey to afford! I already have like 15K miles on her Sucks but thats why i bought her...I couldnt stand just leaving it in the garage all the time. Thats what the last owner did and then he sold it. IMO driving it as much as I do keeps me lovin it!

1070 a moth total! dammit man, I think I am going to have to move to Texas and get a job there!!

I hope you are driving that fast at a track and not on the streets. By the way, who says driving a honda is ricey? Also, there are alot of other cars that get good gas mileage than a honda. Getting a good gas mileage car is the smart thing to do...

the 3v is making the most power so far, but after the seasons first dyno and track runs it goes bye-bye. 16 mpg aint cuttin it.

Any 5.4 I've been in hasn't been worth poop for mpg.


If your all about being unique, drop in a 4.6 3v, keep the charge motion plates.

I'd have to admit though, even if your not a ricer kind of guy, then go buy a used focus. 30+ mpg being realistic never hurts.

If we go off of the current 266.63 gallons consumed a month at 16 mpg for your 4266 miles traveled and if you were to increase that to a very realistic 30mpg with a focus, you'd drop down to 142 gallons a month and literally cut your fuel costs in half and save roughly 400 a month which would save all around.

If it's feasable, go buy a new 250 cc crotch rocket, have a 125 mph capability, and 70mpg...of course you can't get both at the same time, but for 2-3G you can't go wrong.

My stock, 2v, auto equipped 04GT just clocked in 22.8 mpg last week, which I believe to be very realistic for winter driving and also mixed driving. I run Castrol GTX 5-30 dyno.

I certainly hope to to see 24 plus in the summer.

As far as superchargers go, my 93 coupe that made 427.4 hp to the rear tire got 22.6 mpg at 70mph with the cruise set.

Shoot, my wife's Xterra with 261hp and 280 ft lbs 4200 lb 4x4 brick gets 20-24 on the highway, depending on the head wind, at about 70mph.

I drive 40,000 miles a year for work. My 10,000lb work truck with a Chevy 6.0L V8 gets 12-13 mpg. Roughly 833 a month in gas.

I have recorded as low as 15 mpg in the Mach 1 with my foot in it for most of the tank. I'd say try to keep those high speed runs to once or twice a week. At full throttle your probably getting closer to 4-7 mpg dragging your average down. Driving the way you are any engine will get terrible fuel mileage.

That's why I have a focus ZX5 as my DD. I drive roughly 3 - 4k a month and average about 27 - 32mpg. I can get ~320 - 360 miles per tank and it's a 13 gallon tank. I also garage my mustang in the winter so I save on insurance too, but I don't think that applies here..

You can cut your fuel consumption in half AND keep the miles off the stang by buying a good DD. Your savings will more than pay for the car, Best of all your 'stang will feel like a freakin' rocket ship when you do drive it..

i get much worse if i goose it. i do my best to avoid the go peddle. i would say i do a 120mph short run every day with a 140mph run once or twice a week and bury the 150mph speedo once a week.

thats watching the gas gauge drop in real time.

I wonder how much gas you will have to save to recuperate all the money spent on the different motor swaps?
