The oil pump broke in the Notch(just two weeks away from selling it:mad:) Therefore I have a seized up motor, lovely right? Anyway, I picked up another 5.0 motor. I have helped pull a motor before, but not in mustang.

Does anyone have any tips on pulling the motor? Should I pull the tranny with it or not? Any tips would be great!

Thank you!

yes take the hood off. i just pulled my motor with a harbor frieght hoist.i removed the fenders to give me a little more room to get the hoist closer.and since the motor coming out wasnt going back in i removed most of what would come off.i also removed just the motor not the tranny.

Its really not that bad...dont psych yourself out, just take your time and make sure nothin gets stuck. I just pulled the motor outta my 90 Coupe, but I had already taken all the accessories, heads, intake etc off a couple months ago in search of why it popped. Def. take the hood off, makes things easier and make sure when you chain it up that its secure before you start lifting it. Good luck!!!

Thanks man! Done deal, came out no problem. Almost effortlessly. Just took it out by the intake.:nice:

Pretty common failure, when he rebuilds it, get an ARP shaft.

I have heard that. He has his own 5.0 to build for his car. I already bought another motor. So I doubt I will rebuilt this one. IF I do, it will be a 331 but I would rather wait and buy a 4 bolt main block if I do that again. Made that mistake once.(wish i could push more out of it)

Glad you got it out no prob! Mine ended up bein the #1 rod end fell off lol, the nuts are in the pan, the end was just layin there and i could move the #1 piston by hand. Looks like it mangled up the oil pickup tube but nothin else seems out of whack. I imagine the crank is shot too but havnt torn it down that far yet. Im with you tho, it wont be rebuilt, already got another motor on the stand waitin to go back in.

Oh man that sucks. I had to do that to get a socket out of mine. Pull it and see whats good and what is to scrap.
