Hello all. I'm new to the board and I was wondering if you guys could help me out? I just bought a 87 lx that was originaly a 4 banger and has been converted to a 5.0. My question is I want to do a push button ignition and use a dpst rocker for the main electrical power. I have the switches and the blank to cover the ash tray (the lid actually still works ). any who.....I found the wiring diagram here.. http://www.stangnet.com/tech/cluster87-93.pdf ..but I'm still unsure what wires to use. Any help?
thanks. BlueStang

After looking at that, I would say the one that goes to the battery/coil (5), would be the one that gets the momentary(push button) switch, then because you'd have to use the key anyways in the forward position to unlock the steering wheel, you could probably use the ground (2) as the switchable connection with the toggle switch.

That would be what I'd try anyway

My first guess was to go and use the #6 connection on the toggle switch, but like I said because you'll need to put the key in the on position anyhow I'd go with the ground connection that is if you are dead set on using the toggle switch and the push button. You could just use the ignition switch on the on position and use the push button on the coil wire.

I see...... I have no experience with that so sorry I can't help, You'd definately need to figure out how to get the wheel to unlock, Maybe if the ignition cylinder is removed it won't lock, again just a gues but it makes sense

i belive if you remove the ignition switch it wont lock anymore. It takes like 5 seconds to take it out.. as far as wiring

12V |yellow |+ |ignition harness
STARTER |red/blu or wht/pink |+ |ignition harness
IGNITION|red/green |+ |ignition harness
ACCESSORY|gray/yellow |+ |ignition harness

get a 30 amp bosch relay and a momentary switch.

connect terminal 30 to the starter wire ( red/blu or wht/pink )
Connect terminal 87 to ignition( red/green )
Connect terminal 85 one of the leads of the momentary switch.(either one)
Connect terminal 86 to ignition( red/green )
now ground the other wire from the switch. And thats it.

To make this work you'll have to do this twice more but using normal on off toggle switch. Once for Ignition and once for accessory.
Reason being is you have to kick on ignition to start the car and then accessory for radio, and other accessories.
