pushrod length please help

i am installing edelbrock performer RPM heads on my 68 302. and need to know how long of pushrods to use. i am going to use harland sharp 1.6 roller rockers and a edelbrock performer rpm cam and lifters. not roller lifters but still hydrolic flat tappet. i know i need hardend pushrods for the guidplates but the length is my only question. is the stock length correct or with the 1.6 rockers do they need to be shorter but then i lose what the rockers gain me.

Stock should work fine unless your heads or block have been milled down? I think I'm right on this but check first with someone who knows for sure so you dont pretzel something!!

1.6 is the factory ratio so your not gaining anything from them.

The only way to know for sure, is to get a set of "checking" pushrods and use them. Stock length, varies according to year, and valve stem length. Sorry I can't tell you for certain what length you need, but that's what happens when you're trying to assemble a motor with non stock parts. To use the "checking" pushrods, you'll need to wait until the final assembly of the long block, and before bolting the intake on. And preferably with the engine on an engine stand, so you can observe the rocker to valve tip contact without being a contortionist.

You can do like I did. I just took an old extra stock pushrod, cut a small section out, drilled and tapped the ends that you cut with a 1/4-20 tap. Then take a long 1/4-20 stud and insert it in both ends. Wala, you now have an adjustable pushrod checker.
