I have a 89 LX 302 just got my block back and I got the heads on tonight and all the lifters in and pushrods and rockers. Now I had to have my block and heads milled at the machine shop. After getting heads back together I haven't done any type of preloading yet but every single one of my rockers is anywhere from a 1/4 inch or more off from even being close to seating right on my pushrods. So I need some advise on what to do here. This is all new to me so I am learning as I go. I only fingertightened all my rockers. I actually didnt go thru the preload procedure because I have yet to put my balancer back on so I have no means of turning the crank to open and close valves. But as it sits right now the rods aren't even remotly close. The current length on my pushrods are 5 28/32 that was measuring just the straight section of the rod not the ball on either end. If I need longer rods how long do I need. The ruler I was using to measure what I got is only 6 inches and measuring the whole length of the rod it was like a 1/4 over 6 inches

when you mill things you could have changed the valve train geometry. You will have to measure and order new pushrods. Myself I would think that milling heads and deck would make original pushrods too long.
