When installing these injectors, do I leave these tan caps on or what?

Yea I'm pretty sure you leave them on. There should be a hole in the bottom of the cap where the fuel comes out.

I'm going through this. I bought some used 24#'s the other day, a few of them had broken caps and it had orange caps on ther rest. My stockers were brown/tan. So I went to get some new caps. When I saw the new caps, they are different from my caps and the caps on them, they were blue and the hole was larger, of course, The guy I bought them off of said he transfered from his stock injectors. I ordered them for a 93 Cobra or a 5.0 Explorer. They didn't have but 3 of them so I have to pick up the other 5 tomorow.

The caps help direct the spray.

yep those are called pintle caps and you leave 'em on....at least you didn't break your Fuel Pressure Guage fitting off in your fuel line like I just did

No, but I think I did something worse

Upon taking the stockers out, some o rings got stuck in there, along with the old orange caps from the 19# shooters.

I went to take them out and I think a little piece of an orange cap fell into the intake! I can't see it so I don't know if I did drop it down, or if it fell to the side of the intake (which, unfortunately, had other orange chipped pieces and I don't know how many were there before my possible ****up.)

So what do I do??

Get some old pantyhose, put it around the nozzle of your most powerful vacuum and try to suck them out? You'l know if you sucked them up by looking at the end of the nozzle, the panty hose will hold it there. Don't turn over the engine to try to get them out easier, you'll just close the valves.

i had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. i took my injectors out and i'm not sure if one of the caps fell off when i took it out or if it fell off before hand. when i took out the injector a piece of the cap was hanging on the egde of the hole where it goes into. i talked to my local mustang shop and he told me that if it did fall in(either before or when i took them out)that it would just burn up in the combustion chamber. i had the upper intake off, and took a vacume cleaner and put it over the runner to try to suck it out. but i dont know if it went threw the motor already.

You don't have one of those skinny adapters? Just put your finger over part of it.

I was thinking you could put the vacumm on the intake PORT, and cap the injector hole with your finger

Ah, I could do that. I was thinking to vacuum the hole in which it fell, which is kinda impossible

The plastic caps are called pintle caps, and have nothing to do with directing the fuel flow. The pintle cap secures the O ring in place so that it doesn't slide off down into the intake. Lost caps are not uncommon, and being plastic, the will burn up in the cylinder if the fall off. Ford made them of plastic for that reason.

Fuel injector seal kits with 2 O rings and a pintle cap (Borg-Warner P/N 274081) are available at Pep Boys auto parts. Cost is about $2.74 per kit. The pintle caps fit either injectors with a pin sticking out the injector end or 4 with more tiny holes in the injector end. Pull the rails off the car and flush the small piece out.....

I use a little vasaline or wd-40 on the o-rings it makes them easier to install.
