Hi, i recently picked up an 86 5.0 H.O. which i will be putting in my 1966 stang. I have the motor torn down to the block to rebuild it and figure while it is apart i might as well throw a cam in it. The motor will be switched to MAF from speed density, but I am running the stock pistons (flat ones, no valve reliefs). I was wondering if a tfs stage 1 cam will work or will the valves interfer with the pistons. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Im looking to get a little extra power without breaking the bank. Thanks:flag:

Im trying to save as much money as i can. I'm a college student trying to do a resto and its not easy, got to pinch pennys when i can. Where can I get a set of those 200 dollar pistons? And will hyperutic hold up with nitrous?

i guarantee you for the price of a rebuild you can find an Explorer block...it might have 100k miles on it but that's nothing...put a cam in it and you've got a pretty healthy budget street engine.

I picked up the 5.0 for 300 bucks, and have 200 in the rebuild so far. New main bearings, rod bearings, rings, oil pump, timing set and gaskets. not too bad. I elminated power steering, smog system and a/c because my old car doesn't need any of that. I will be running long tube 15/8" headers with glass packs. I would like to see some extra power out of the motor without breaking the bank. I plan on running a 75-100 shot of nitrous. i running a 5 speed tranny, ford 8" with 4.10's and slicks. I was just wondering if the cam would be worth considering (my birthday is coming up and my girlfriend is wiling to help buy some parts) Thanks for any help.

If the pistons are stock style the flat top nature of them will be a limiting factor in cam selection....wrong choice and you could very well end up with quite a mess. I would look at upgrading the heads rather than fussing with a cam..heads will yeild better gains.
