PVC bad for intake piping?

I've got a CAI pipe and im using a K&N panel in the stock box.. asking this question for a 1.5L honda buddy. Sold him my conical filter and we're trying to rig something up.

I figured PVC pipe would work fine, especially on a honda right? How about ABS piping, is that the same price?

I've got it on mine and everythings just find and dandy. I've never really read the air temperature difference with it, but like was said earlier, it's got to be a far cry better than the factory ducting because of the larger diameter and smooth bends alone.

you could always do something to insulate the pipe (header wrap or something like that) since it does not sound like aesthetics are too important (hardware store pipe aint pretty). :-)

a warmer intake charge does have a big (detrimental) role in the efficiency of the motor. but rig it up and it will be as good if not better than stock. on one of my old cars (carb), i used dryer vent ducting on a home made cold air deal. LOL.

If your buddy with the Honda is planning on hanging that conical under the hood, then he's gonna lose HP over the stock box. For every 10F increase in intake air temp (warm under-hood air) the engine loses 1% of it's HP. Be sure he adds some of those good looking Home Depot 90 degree PVC ells so he can put the filter someplace where it will pick up cold air.

I know.. do you remember me making a post about "cold air - good or bad?" - well i sold my conical filter to him, and i bought a K&N panel filter for the stock box for myself :D

Thanks for the replies.

LOL, im sure it will make his car faster, in his mind anyways. :)
as long as you gave him the sticker that came with the air filter, it will be faster. if you painted the metal on the filter some ostentatious color, double the HP.

Worked good on my 94. Plus the plastic doesn't conduct as much heat as metal intakes.

...and try and get it in the fender, unlike I did :notnice:
