Pypes violator mufflers

i love mine. i get a ton of compliments from people. i like to do something different and it is. lots of sn guys ask what exhaust it is and when i tell them they always ask where they can get them. i just purchased the kooks long tubes with the catted pipe. i cant wait to hear what they sound like after that. check out brenspeed.com i think they have the best price on them. the four inch tip looks great to the camaro i mean people behind me

I also own this exhaust..

Love it to death, its not as loud as SLP or wide opens, but its about as loud as you can get without drone.. Has an amazing tone to it, little to no drone on freeway..

I say go for it!

With stock manifolds and midpipe, they're a bit tame, but they're louder than stock and sound fantastic. They've got such a good tone to them. I'm just trying to find the perfect midpipe to compliment them. Even if they're weren't cheaper than most mufflers, I'd buy them over any others I've heard. My only gripe is that there is no drain hole in the tips, so they do require a bit of maintenance to keep from rusting, but it's more than worth it.

my catted h from MRT just came the other day so now all i need are the o2 sensors which dan from MRT is sending and should be here anytime this week. Give me a week and I should be able to get a clip up

Has anyone drilled a drain hole for each tip?

I've thought about it many times, but I was worried if I did that, it might rust.

it probably would rust from the new dain holes. if you can find something good to coat it with that would prevent corrosion AND be unnoticable, then you might have a shot.

Therein lies the problem. When I was the car, I use my leaf blower to dry it out, so they should be ok. I haven't had any problems yet. I'm just paranoid.

Out of curiosity, how would drilling a hole in stainless steel cause it to rust faster? It's stainless, not a coated steel like aluminized steel.

different grades of stainless have different corrosion resistence. between 409 304, one is better than the other. i dont recall which is which though. there was a big debate a while back about some stainless headers rusting. they wont rust through, but they can get some cosmetic rust.

With respect, that's not related to drilling a hole causing faster rusting. T-409 SS is stronger/more durable due to some other alloys being added (more chromium, some titanium) but T-304 SS has much better corrosion resistance. It appears most OEMs use T409 for factory exhaust systems, so they tend to develop surface rust after a few years but some polishing/sanding will make it shine right up. The S197 GT's stock factory tips are polished T304 SS while the mufflers, pipes, and cats are just T409. T304 will change color at high temperatures though.

Now I'm wondering why drilling a hole into an alloy is going to cause it to rust faster since it's not coated in the first place. I can understand drilling a hole into aluminized steel would accelerate rust unless the drilled portion is coated with paint, since the aluminized material is just a coating.

Another interesting thing I noticed is that since T304 isn't magnetic (not enough iron??), then it'd be more difficult to develop rust (Ferrous oxide) as we know it.

all is theoretical, thats for sure. i dont have concrete proof one way or the other. those JBA headers were fairly new, IIRC.

a polished surface will have greater resistence to corrosion when compared to a non polished surface. the polished surface has less surface are for corrosion to start. a surface thats a little jagged, like if it was sanded with course sandpaper, grinder, or a not so sharp drill bit, will have more surface are for problems to start.

i do see your point. stainless is different than regular steel (in a good way, thats why it is used). i dont have any experience with stainless and corrosion, so these are theories. Darkfire, if you feel comfortable, then try it out. are the pypes 304 or 409?

You make an interesting point about the surfaces. I wonder what would happen if you had polished those stainless headers? I painted my Mustang GT's factory exhaust with black rustoleum for extra corrosion protection. I know its T409 but what the heck...

I think I will go ahead and try it. I'm probably going to replace mine with the polished version next year, anyway. the tips are T304, so they should be the least prone to corrosion. I don't know a whole lot about metal, thus why I haven't drilled holes into them. I know when you get a dent, you get rust if you don't cover it back up. Different material, I know, but I don't know that much about the differences between metals. I know a magnet will stick on my mufflers, but not the tips, so the tips are definitely T304.

I have the polished T-304 SS Violators, and have been extremely happy with them just by themselves, along with the stock mid pipe w/cats.
