well, since my motor went I have been looking for a cheap replacement to get me through until I biuld up my 351w.

I found a nice 88 HO motor. intake to oil pan pullies to bellhousing. so I went to go look at it. I brought some tools to pull the valve covers and turn the motor over a few times to see if it was worth taking home. well, first off it comes with full length headers on it so I figured that was a plus right there. it was a little dirty on the outside but that was ok.

well, anyways, to the point of my question, when I turned the motor over I noticed right away that the valves appear to have alot more lift that my old stock motor did. the guy said nothing about it having a cam but I did notice it had hardened push rods.

what I am wondering is, do stock 88' 5.0's come with a taller cam than my 92' would of come with? when I pick it up an the first I will turn it over again to see what kind of lift it actually has.

Different ramp rate though IIRC (hence the noisier valvetrain which was changed because of noise complaints).
If the motor was SD and you are putting it in a MAF car, swapping cams would be a good idea anyhow (so you dont have to deal with SD cam limitations).

Good luck.
