Quad Shock Removal.

Technically you can remove them with your stock stuff without any issues, you just run the chance of wheel hop. I say yank them.....if you get wheel hop...put them back on :) That's a pretty simple task. Why do you want to remove them though? You're only losing like 2.5 or 3 lbs of weight really...unless you want some fatty tires in the back, that's the best and only reason IMO

I have 315 Nittos mounted on 17X10.5 rims and from the looks of the shock they have rubbed before, either since I owned the car or the previous owner who used the same rear tires. I plan on getting a set of Strange 10 way adjustables later on this summer and I dont want them being rubbed. I plan on keeping the uppers stock so was just wondering if it was still fine to do this w/ just the lowers being upgraded.

I have the MM lowers with the stock uppers (for now) and had no wheel hop issues after I removed the quad shocks. The 5lb weight saving is a bonus.

trav, like i told you i ripped mine out... runnin 315s would definitely rub... so out they went lol... but like u mentioned, mine were rubbing as well prior to removal... must've been when i had 295s

Works for me Im going to take them out. I wanted to get to it today but didn't. I'll get to it next week, even if I did get some wheel hop I could always put them back in anyway.

you can certainly try removing them. some people get wheel hop without them. if you find you are having wheel hop after taking them off, you might consider putting them back on.

I run a set of Granatelli upper and lowers on the rear. Honestly....if the wheel hops.....Then buy uppers!!! They're cheaper than the lowers anyways. At the age of the 94/95 factory quad shock i wouldn't think of putting that crap back on!!!

I've lost 5 lbs on the toilet before, so I would keep them on there and not worry about the weight. HEHE

Blimey, that curry you ate must have been hot. ;)
Anyway, I removed mine simply because I don't need them and also as part of a wider Stang weight reduction program. Mine's 92lb lighter than stock as it stands now and there'll be a further 28lb lost when I swap in a pair of lighter front seats.

Ive heard that aftermarket uppers cause binding in drag race applications

Uppers work good for Drag race, they bind in the corners so they are not good for road race unless you get more than a 2 piece bushing so it won't bind. I'm installing the ones from J&M. They say no binding so I'm giving them a try. they are a 3 piece bushing...pretty trick!

MM says that with their panhard bar to use stock because 2 piece poly will bind. They don't even make an upper arm.

With a torque arm and panhard bar then you can get rid of the uppers.
