Here's the deal. I've got a chance to buy a 2006 short block and i would like to know if the pistons used in the new 3v motors are the same as used in the 99-04 2v cars. Just want to make sure the short block will play nice with the Patriot Performance 2v heads. Thanks.

From my understanding I heard they are a little stornger "little" if have the block out I would spend the extra money and get some new pistons and rods. Crank and block are all good for some major jp.. but I would plan for the future with it.. find out what power addred your going to go and get the right compression for your needs. . If your planning ro run 450 or so rwhp then stick with what you got.. any higher and you should get get them swapped out with some forged goodies IMO

I don't know about the older 2-valve motors, but I've heard the 3-valve pistons are only 1/8'' thick at the top. Any detonation at all with boost can grenade these things.

I suppose i should explain what i'm trying to do and what i need to know. I'm working on building a new motor for my 03 gt. I'm planning on using Patriot Performance Stage II heads and cams with a Typhoon or Bullit intake. I would like to go with the 05 or later block for weight savings. I'm just wondering if i can save some time and money by useing the already assembled short block from an 06 without haveing to worry about piston to valve cleareance or any other issues.
