Hey guys. A friend of a friend has a Mustang with a paxton supercharger in it. I don't know what kind, and I don't know what it's capable of. I know it was on a stock shortblock, and I've been told it's an SN series, more than likely an SN-93, but my friend says it has a sticker on it that says "GSS" on it. Anyway, I guess he experienced some trouble with the blower, and it had something happen internally. My friend says it got no oil and seized up. This guy went and bought a Vortech A trim to replace it, and I don't think he has any plans for the Pax. Is it worth my time to look into buying this blower and having it rebuilt? I could probably get it cheap, and I really want a blower. I don't want a vortech so much, and I really like the Powerdyne, with it's lowered noise, but the one time I heard the Pax running it was nice and quiet. Anyway, this seems like a possible opportunity to get a blower, fix it, and do it cheap, so if anyone can lend me any information, I'd really appreciate it.

That depends on what you mean by cheap....
Try calling paxton, tell them your problem, and see what they say it will cost to have repaired/rebuilt.

It has the bearing drive, soemthing happened with the oil pump, and it just seized. My friend called Paxton about it and they said it would be $700 to have it rebuilt.

I think both bearing inside are seized up. I don't know what condition the shaft is in and if it contined to spin while the bearings seized.

Well, I did some quick homework, and it seems that the company Paradise Wheels bought the rights to the older Paxton blowers. A complete rebuild goes for 700.00, they'll upgrade the impeller for 150, and they'll either add or enchance the oil cooler (not sure which, but the blower I'm interested in has an oil cooler already)for 200. Blackfox is the friend who has the friend. I weighed my options, and I came up with a solution. If everything works out, and this guy is willing to sell the blown blower cheap, then I'll probably get it in mid September or so, and be pushing boost in November. We'll see. Keep the options coming though guys, I want to learn as much as possible about these Paxtons, and what to expect.

Guys, I have a question. I want to know if it'd be safe to even put boost into my motor. I have a 130k mile bottom end with no obvious leaks or blowby, and I get 175 psi compression on all cylinders. the top end is an E cam from Ford racing, a pair of GT40P heads with 1.96 intake valves and 1.54 exhaust valves (larger than normal P heads), and a Gt40/Explorer intake. I also have full o/r exhaust, roller rockers, MSD ignition, and the bolt on crew. The top end was built 4 months ago, with brand new heads, a 1,000 mile cam, and the intake doesn't really count for mileage. What I'm worried about is compression being too high. I have the P heads, which have smaller combustion chambers, and yield higher compression numbers than stock. Is this something to worry about, or will my motor take some boost, no more than like 6 psi, and be safe? I'll upgrade the injectors and MAF, and I already have a 255 LPH intank pump, but the compression is my biggest concern.

Not worth it IMO. What will the guy be charging you, $300 for the blower? If so thats $1000 total into (what I think is) a crappy blower. Paxton doesnt even support them anymore. I'd look around for a used N1k or a used blown up Powerdyne. Ive heard the Powerdynes are real cheap and easy to rebuild, around $100. Its just a belt inside. Brand new you can get a N1k for $1700 and thats a 100 times better blower than a GSS,SN series. Its more like a s trim but alot cheaper. It depends on what you wanna invest your money into.

Youll be ok, just take some timing out of it. You have a regular 255 fuel pump or the GSS340 high pressure one? Will you be running an FMU or larger injectors?

Well, I offered a certain amount which he said sounded fair, and I am willing to spend. He's going to get back to me when he gets it squared away. I figure its worth it, because I hate vortechs noise, and I don't want to spend more than like 1200. Powerdynes are supposedly unreliable from what I hear, although I like them I've been warned to stay away.

I have the one sold on Ebay. It was listed as a high pressure one, and that number sounds familiar, so I'd assume it's the one. I'll jump to a 36# setup, with a 75mm ProM and FRPP injectors. I run 16* timing now, with 91-93 octane fuel, but I knew that would have to be backed off. Glad to know that it can take that compression.

To be honest $1200 will put you out of the N1k range, but just FYI they sound nothing like a vortech. They are real quiet.

Powerdynes are unreliable when you go trying to blow 12 psi through them on a belt drive blower. Thats just unwise, but people do it of couse and wonder what went wrong. The catch is though you can get a really good deal on one from an idiot thats blown one up, get the cheap rebuilt kit (they are way cheaper to rebuild than all other blowers + you can do it yourself) and come up on an awesome blower for cheap. With 6 psi youll be fine. Go around and talk to Powerdyne owners though. Ask Jade Falcon, hes had great results with his. Dont go by what people have heard. Do the numbers, it could be a good buy.

Everything sounds good. Youll want to start with 5* timing and work up slowly from there. Just some more advice, dont waste money on a BTM. They are unreliable and blow up your car when they malfunction. You can also lock timing into the low 20* range, but thats another lesson for another day. Well help you out when u get everything installed..

BTM? what's that? I've got a little blower general knowledge, but overall, forced induction is a little higher than my understanding.

Its a MSD/vortech ignition component. Its a small unit with a knob that lets you retard timming under boost. The sensor on them goes bad over time, causing problems.

Boost Timing Management, it pulls timing when you make boost. It goes by a ratio, for every # of boost you make, it retards however much timing you tell it to. It can go from 0-5* of retard I think. IMO it's a bandaid just like an FMU is. A tuner/chip will laugh at a BTM in it's face.

I see many people as well as myself think that that blower is not a good buy. I don't know why noise is such a big deal to you. I'd rather have more power than be quiet. Some people want noise more than power, in which case is a bad idea.
