question about cams and roller rockers..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i recently purchased the following parts:

GT-40 heads/three bar type
Crane 1.7 roller rockers
E-303 camshaft
I heard that this combination will iddle like crap and that i should keep the stock cam if i plan on using the 1.7 rockers.
What do u guys think?

My bro and I are running near identical setups, we both have explorer engines. His has the tri bar gt40 heads. He's running a tfs stage 1 cam, with 1.6 rr's.

I've got the 4 bar gt40p explorer engine block, and are running 1.7's with a HO mustang cam.

I don't think you'll have to worry about idle, so much as you will clearance issues with those 1.7's. You may have valve to piston issues. CLay your engine up with everything installed to be sure. My bro chose the 1.6's just to be on the safe side.

I currently run the E-cam with pedestal mount 1.7 cobra rockers on edelbrock heads. The idle is a little lumpy, but not unreasonable, and it pasted e-test with cats on, no prob. :nice:
The only problem I have is not being able to adjust the rockers. When I build the engine I suspected two were going to give me problems as the only took 1/4 turn to meet torque spec. Long story short after 15000kms the valve train is quite noisy at around 2000rpm-3000rpm.
That being said I have been happy with the e-cam.
