Do different brands of X pipes give different exhaust sound? I once had a Bassani O/R X pipe and you could not make that thing sound good. Do all X pipes basically sound the same?

mustangtuning o/r xpipe = :worship:

I have got nothing but compliments on the sound. One guy wanted to know what exhaust I had on my car cause he thought it sounded so bad ass. He had an 02 GT w/ the Bassani o/r xpipe w/ Flows and said it didnt sound anywhere as mean as mine did

Yea I've been for a ride in my friends 99 GT vert (which he sold for a truck ) and he had X pipe with flowmasters and it sounded like he had a H pipe. The car SOUNDED like a Mustang. Is it because I have 2 more valves and 2 more camshafts? My car doesn't sound like a true Mustang and when I put the Bassani X pipe on, my God that was the worst sounding combo I've ever heard.

if you want loud and mean, get o/r xpipe and Borla Stingers. I love the way Stingers sound on a 4v!!! Warning: will be an EXTREMELY loud combo!!!

Oh, to answer your question: There are differences between the sounds of xpipes due to the placement on the "x" joint. some companies have the "x" placed more in the front of the pipe than others, while some are placed further back. There are different "x" joint designs as well. The mustangtuning, SLP, VRS, and UPR xpipe have similar designs. Companies like Magnaflow Dr. Gas and Bassani have an "x" joint design that is really a seperate piece of the pipe. Pics to clarify:
Mustangtuning xpipe : http://mustangtuning.com/noname4.html
Bassani Xpipe: http://www.bassaniexhaust.com/default.cfm?fuseaction=Catalog.bxxpipe

I had the Dr Gas and 2 chamber flows and it sounded like freight train coming. The sound does come from the location of the crossover, whether or not the x is a true crossover, and the mufflers to compliment. I had a good muffler shop locate the X as close to the manifodls as possible and it was almost directly under the 5spd. It rubbed the clutch cable cover. you could see it hanging under the car BUT MAN it sounded great. Only problem is with the Dr Gas unit, you only get the x-over section and have to piece the rest of the unit together which requires a very capable exhaust shop BUT IMHO nothing sounds better than Dr GAS and 2ch flows, espescially with 410s to accentuate the exhaust

I have the SLP x-pipe that mustangtuning sells ....sounds awesome ...wouldn't go back to the H ever again after gettin it ...smooth, racy tone with the flowmasters ...I think the mustangtuning x and the slp will sound the same ...they are built pretty much the same ...dr gas also sounds mean from what I hear ..but havent heard it first hand yet

I had a Dr. Gas and the Bassani. Bassani sounds like crap to me (o/r version, rattle sound) Had so many people say it makes a lot of noise for not going anywhere. The Dr Gas sounds good but too mellow for me. With the Dr. Gas I was using MAC Flowpath and then to Spintech Pro-streets. I had too many issues with the Dr. Gas because it hung so low. It would hit all the time (Eibach Sportlines). The H-pipe is louder than the Dr. Gas but more rumbley. The cams helped with that.

Yes, any o/r pipe will need some sort of eliminators. Either through a chip, tune, or the plug in MIL eliminators.

Yep, either MIL eliminators, chip or a handheld programmer. Check out SCT chips and/or handheld tuner at www.modulardepot.com. SCT - The guys that know!

I had a UPR X-pipe with my Magnaflow catback and it sounded great. When I went to long tubes, I swapped the Magnaflow mufflers out for Spintechs and added a Trubendz X-pipe. The Trubendz pipe is the biggest piece of crap I have ever bought, but it doesn't sound bad. Its just the fact that it appears that Ray Charles welded it shortly before his death. Therefore, it didn't meet up to the long tubes or the catback correctly and had to be cut up and re-bent by a local shop.

Isn't the Trubendz actually built by MAC?
