Did anyone have an earlier cobra then trade in or sell for an 03, and how much of an increase on insurance? I will be 21 in may but my record isn't too good but a couple things are comin off because it's been 3 years. So supposedly my insuarance may come down a little but im still under my parents because i live at home. It is about $2000 a year for the 98 cobra. I am trying to decide whether to keep my car for another year so I can afford an 03 cobra a little more comfortably; or sell the 98 now because the value may go down farther when the new body style cobra comes out next year (but that would make the 03 price drop too so I'd sorta lose out either way?)
Still don't know what to do.. Even a 99-02 Saleen 281sc is an option but maybe more expensive on insurance, but the cobra just has everything i want.

Hey,

I had an 03 GT and sold it for an 03 cobra and my insurance went up 14 bucks. BUT one thing you might look into: I bought a 99 Olds alero to drive to work and back for 2500 bucks. I have that listed as my "primary" vehicle, and the cobra as the "pleasure" vehicle. Only 160 bucks a month for full coverage on both and I'm 22 witha not-so-good record.

oh, so maybe it won't be too bad. I have an 89 Bronco II to put as the main car i drive. I just have to figure out how to pay for the 03 now!! I pay $318 a month for a 98 which sucks as it is. I know I'm gonna be near $400 with an 03. Hopefully I can sell my car (46,000 miles) for around $15,500-16,000 cuz that is what they are goin for around here.
i wonder how you young guys with 03's afford it

The 03/04 Cobras will drop more drastically in value when the 07 comes out. If you don't drive the miles up on your 98, you can expect it to hold about 90% of its value between now and then. The 96-98's have pretty much hit their low now.

true... if i keep it another year it will probably be closer to 60,000 though and not that many people wanna car (like a mustang) with that high mileage. I mean I see 03 cobras at dealers with around 13k miles for $24900, so a private seller should be willing to let one go for 21500-22000. i'd imagine trade in value sucks no matter what. I want one with lower mileage... i dunno.. im very impatient :D i keep seein 03s and i need to have one

Your insurance is cheap as hell compared to mine. I'm 18 and drive a Protege right now (cant afford a mustang right now...tech school comes first), and thats $90 a month. I have done some online quotes for mustangs and probably the cheapest I can get for any GT would be about $250/mo liability only. Thats even for the older 5.0's, so I'm stuck waiting.

BTW, I THINK that with the Saleen's your insurance is the same as a GT because they are built off the GT. So, a Saleen may be cheaper than an '03 Cobra...but get the Cobra anyway! I rode in a couple they are sweet, wish I could afford one.
