Question about pilot bearing

I am installing my flywheel and clutch and I need to know if there is a O-ring seal that you use to install the pilot bearing. Because the guys at ford say they cannot find that and I have no idea how it goes in otherwise. In my haynes manual it says there is a o ring seal and you press it on but my pilot bearing didnt come with that seal and i cant remember when i took mine out if there was one or how its held on there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Always cross check the Haynes manual w/ another source, it isn't right all the time. Do what canadastang said and put the pb in the freezer for a few hours to contract the metal.. that will make getting it on an easier job. When I had my clutch done, the pilot bearing came out in pieces because whoever did the previous install smashed it on with a hammer.

and if not how do you put it in just press it in with a hammer and socket?
As I said earlier, pop it in the freezer for a few hours, grease it up good as well as the opening you are sliding it into. You may have to use a block of wood and a hammer [put the wood against the bearing, and tap the wood with the hammer, don't hit the bearing with the hammer directly] to tap it in but if it's good and cold it should just slide in without having to tap it.

The Haynes manual covers a wide span of model years so sometimes the info is not applicable to your model. Other times it is just not accurate. But it is a great source of general information.
