I've got two questions about the '04 Sirius-ready Mach 460.

1) What exactly does it mean by Sirius-ready? Do you just need to add a Sirius tuner on or is everything built in?

2) Has anyone taken a Sirius-ready '04 head unit and put it in another year Mustang? I'd be looking to put it in an '01 GT that has the Mach 460. If it will work, does it require any special harnesses?

Thanks in advance for the input.

I'm not positive about this...but i think they would also need to add a separate antenna for the satellite radio...

I have the same SAT-capable MACH 460 in mine. All it means is you have the buttons to control a satellite tuner. You still need to get a tuner. The dealership wanted $499 for it. You can find it online for $200. Add another $50 for the antenna.

Your other option is to get an aftermarket satellite radio system (XM or Sirius) that will pump it through an unused FM station on your stock headunit. You won't be able to control the satellite radio unit from your stock headunit though.

The next option is to rip everything out related to the MACH 460, and start from scratch.

Does the SAT ready Mach 460 tuner also display the information like channel and stuff through the stock display?

I would guess the SAT-ready MACH 460 headunit will display the text if you hook it up to a tuner. Not via the FM modulation though.

Dunno about the MP3 capable systems. The Ford Ranger Tremor has an MP3 capable system. I don't remember it displaying anything when we test drove one.

This site below has Sirius tuners for a direct connection to the '04 Ford Radios. The XM Commander with a direct connection is comming soon for the '04 Fords. Your stock radio will control the satellite tunner on the '04, so you do not need a seperate controller for the satellite tuner. You will need an antenna and maybe some cables. Call for more info.

Don't use FM modulation, if you can get a direct connection on your '01.
I had the FM modulated XM in my '02 Mustang and upgraded to a direct connection using a PIE adapter. You contol the satellite tuner with the controller. My installation is with the XM Pioneer 903, but the XM Commander with a controller would be a similar installation. I think that you could hook up a Sirius to the PIE cable, but I've never seen anyone post that they did it. Here's my XM installation in my '02 GT:

Here's the normal XM Commander with the Controller that you would need for your '01.

So has anyone as of yet purchased this kit and have any more information on how it installs, how it works, etc.

I'm very curious to find out. I see these kits with the antennas for sale on ebay and on a few online outlets. Just wondering how you all liked them.

This could very well be the option needed:
It is a universal sirius sat tuner kit complete with the antenna for 50 bux!

Good Luck - I am ordering one right now for my mach 460
