You talk about looks, and forgot the 79-93. The one Mustang that had nothing at all that made me think it might be a Mustang. A 2-door Fairmont does not look like a Mustang should. It was the plainest Mustang ever made.

They had more in common looks wise with the original (or any Mustang model besides it) in the '94-'04 model years than they ever did during the Fox era. Not to say the Fox was a bad looking car mind you, but other than 2-doors, RWD and small block V8 power, it had nothing else in common with any of the others.

Yeah, they have a cylinder deactivation system, but thats just something else to make an engine more complicated for something to go wrong. The 2010 is to have a dohc 5.0 making 425 hp and 400 ft pounds, but I've heard nothing about it having cylinder deactivation. They did say it should get 30 mpg with direct injection and cvt.

The DOHC 5.0 will more than likely see duty in an SE like either a Mach 1 or Boss. I don't think your going to see a mainstream GT. with more than 325 HP. maybe 350/360 HP. max, but definitely not 400+ HP.

Although we could get a SOHC 5.0 instead. That should be good for about 350-360 HP.

I just hope they don't stray too far away from what a Mustang should look like. The cars kind of lost their way with the 94 and 99.
A great example of how not to do that is the Jeep Wrangler and Porsche 911.

I agree with the other people that from 94-04 the looks of the stang started coming back after 14 years of not looking like a stang. To stay on topic I think we will see around 350hp N/A on the GTs.

I read it in a link on this forum about the 5.0 4 valve. It was in the post titled, "will ford drop the V-8 in the mustang", or something like that. It was an autosavant link. It didn't sound like it was the create 5.0 dohc, but something new and very high tech. It was to compete with the new chevy and dodge with small bore, but big power and good mpg. I think the create 5.0 dohc only makes 420 hp and cost 12 grand doesn't it, or something like that?

Saleen is already putting the 3v 302 in its Parnelli Jones and now its H302. It makes 390hp. I believe they just bored out the 4.6. Hopefully Ford will follow their lead.

Sell a v-8 car but have a switch on it so it flips to only 4 cylinders... Say it gets 35 mpg when your on 4 cylinders.... Can you say loophole....Doesnt' the charger have something like that where it turns off half its cylinders when your cruising?

Both dodge & GM have cylinder deactivation available on thier v8's. However it only improves mileage by ~1 mpg. When the engine is idling (like at a stoplight), it's running in V8 mode because the shake when running in V4 mode is too much. Then they shut V4 off over ~2500 rpms or so. So it only operates in a small range, and quickly deactivates when the driver demands more power. If it was used at idle & over more of the rev & driver demand range, it would probably improve mpg 2-3 more than V8 mode. It would be nice to be able to switch between a mode where it stays on longer, even when pushing the pedal down, and sport or something.

Ranger04: The Autosavant link you're referring to. Was originally posted by your's truly.

In the meantime, here's the link again.
